Yamaha rxv1900 with monitor audio mass speakers ,good combination???

How many of you are using 7.1 setups and is there much diffrence to 5.1 .there are some powerful amps that go up to 11.2 but is there any features on the more expensive amps that I would not get on the cheaper ones even tho I'm not needing the extra speaker features.
