Hello

I am just wondering if anybody our there has seen these two in operation and know if they are in essence the same beasts. I know that the 3800 has network capabilty, an extra 10watts per channel and better GUI - but is that it?

I will be running my PS3 via the HDMI into my Pioneer LX5080. I tested the Yamaha AX763 and the picture was noticabley weaker with blacks turning to grey?

I understand that the 1800 and 3800 just pass the HDMI signal straight through.Do i need to do anything on my PS3 or should the picture quality be just as good as my PS3 going straight to my display?

Any advice is appreciated.

I have a 3800 with signal passed through from Sky+HD and Blu-Ray (Sony 350) to my Pioneer TV (4280). ÿPicture quality is great - no degradation - and I couldn't be happier with the sound. ÿThe range is vast, from the most delicate effects to huge climaxes. ÿSpeech is clear and natural. ÿLast night I watched the quirky 'Stranger than Fiction', which has an uncompressed PCM soundtrack. ÿSuch care had been lavished over the sound, that it was just as impressive in its own way as more obvious blockbusters such as 'Batman Begins'. IMHO if you go for the big Yamaha (a great deal until they run out) you won't be disappointed.ÿ

Thanks Sorrel, I picked up the RX-V 1800 for £450 (knocked down from a grand), which I think is an absolute bargain. I just hope that the electronics are up to that of the 3800 - I have checked and they do appear like for like other than the network features.

Looking forward to upsetting my neighbours when it arrives.
