I have an "older" yamaha receiver with DTS/5.1 Dolby Digital/THX (but no HD capabilities I understand) and KEFF speakers, and am contemplating getting a Pioneer BD50 Blu Ray and either the Panasonic 42PZ80 (or 85) or the Pioneer Kuro 428 Plasma TV...

Can anyone please tell me if this is a good set-up to get, and which TV would best fit?

I understand the BD50 player will be sufficient for HD sound so my receiver should be fine- is this correct? Or do I need a new receiver regardless?

Will the HD ready Pioneer Kuro TV be good for this set-up, or should I get the full HD PZ80 (or 85)?

Thanks!!

As long as your Yamaha has 6 channel inputs to connect up to the BD50, this will work fine for the audio.
Can't comment on the TV as not seen either of them.

If I recall correctly (sorry, not really a pro at this and not at home right now to check) I believe its a Yamaha RX V1500 receiver (or might be the RX V2500) and KEF 2005.2 speakers... (all bought in mid 2005)

Just checked, it is the RX V1500.

So the Yamaha RX V1500 should be sufficient since it is 7.1 channels (but no HDMI)? In combination with the KEFs and the Pana BD50 Blu Ray player this will allow me to enjoy HD picture and sound in a good way?

Any recommendations as to the best TV with this set-up? the full HD Pana 42PZ80 or 42PZ85, or the HD ready Pioneer Kuro 428?

Thanks again!

RX V1500 is fine, just hook the Multi-Channel output connections on the BD50 to the Multi-channel inputs on the Yamaha for sound and then hook the BD50 directly to whichever TV you decide on via HDMI for picture.
