Hopefully a question that can simply be answered.

With the new addition of the blu ray player to accompany my amplifier, would it be best to set the audio of the blu ray to output pcm over hdmi or bitstream it to the amp, as i am not sure which would offer the best audio solution owing to both of these components being of almost equal qualities.

Thanks

Tony.

Over HDMI I can only suggest you try both and see if you prefer one over the other

I used to have a PS3 and had no option but to use PCM to my Z7, when I bought my Denon 2500 I could then bitstream to my Z7 , the difference was astonishing letting the Yamaha decode.

Sorry if this does not help but it is personal preference , I have no experience of the Pioneer but it should be an excellent machine of course there is always the analogue outputs as well but as you were specific about HDMI ?

Thanks lesmor,

I was hoping to understand if it was better to use the internal decoding of my new Lx91 blu ray to decode or use the amp, as i'm not sure which is the right path for sonic "heights", now that i have a worthy player now.

I wonder if Mr A Everard had any experience with this type of dilemma?

I would let the Z7 take care of the HD audio codecs. That way, you would be making the best use of the potential of both equipments, i.e. the LX91 for picture and the Z7 for sound.

That's fair advice EvilWolf.

Many thanks to all the responses .

Yep, i'd go with the Yamaha - i've ran a range of players with the Z7 here, and always returned to it for decoding.

And enjoy that superb HD double-act you've invested in; superb stuff!

I've the same combo of Z7/LX91 and I'd let the Z7 do the work.

Enjoy mate (god knows I do!)

If you run multi-channel analogues then the sound is slightly fuller with a tiny bit more detail but the difference vs costs is hard to justify (VDH Flat HDMI against the VDH 'The wave' Phonos)
