Hi all Ive spent many hours at the inlaws today wiring up the yamaha DSP-AX620 AV amp to the Q Acoustics 5.1 speaker package.(As they had tried, and it wasnt working properly)An old set up, i know, but one thats worked perfectly in the past. So all was wired i and gave it a test drive... I decided to play "saving private Ryan" as i know its a good tester for the surround. And it all sounded good until there was a bomb blast in the film. Then the amp displayed the message "check sp cable" and then switched off? Presuming this means "check speaker cable" i checked all connections..ie: + and - were into correct terminals..no stray wires..cable direction is correct and minimum impedence is 6 ohms. (which is the impedence of the speakers) The cable itself looks fine also. The speakers have a 15-75 wattage output which should be fine.. So what could it be??? Desperate dot com!!

sounds like there's a 'short' somewhere in the wiring. check all the connections are clear of each other and that there are no bare wires touching.

Yes the amp does switch on again. And it stays on if at a low volume, but as soon as its turned up and theres any action type scene with a bit of boom to it,it switches off again.
All the wires are perfectly connected so know its not shorting.

i had the same problem with my old Marantz amp. each time i turned up the volume the amp will turn itself off. i see that you have already checked the speeker cable, but i fixed my problem by double checking the speaker cable and all connections to ensure that there was no stray wires causing an issue.

sorry i cant be much more help but that was how i fixed it.

sorry forgot to mention. the issue of the stray wires was at the speaker terminal not the amp.

i checked and double checked at both ends. unfortunately, the inlaws are away so cant get to triple check them. fingers crossed, that thats all the problem is!
