I can't make up my mind which one I should buy.. 763 is 200£ less than 863. I don't really need upscaling and I have only 2 floorstanders so no 5.1 experience. Currently I have only 2 HDMI sources (PS3 and AppleTV) so 763 would be
sufficient and I'm a bit disappointed that 863 doesn't upscale HDMI
signals anyway.

Did anyone compare the two?

Do you think 763 is powerful enough to drive my speakers (Epos M16) I think they are similiar to Monitor Audio RS6?

Is sound considerably better in 863 than 763?

Is DAC unit the same in both of them?

I'm almost thinking that it might be better to get 763 now.. and upgrade to something better in 2 years time (hopefuly with better upscaling then).

In theory I could spend this 200£ towards my stereo amplifier as 763 have preouts. I listen to Cyrus a while ago.. and hopefuly I will get one.. one day

Is there any chance that someone from WHF team could comment on this one?

What is the difference between the two when listening to stereo?

763 Review: Switch to music and much the same applies, although that smoothness can
occasionally give way to sloth. Nevertheless, this is a must-hear amp.

863 Review: The good news continues when you shift to stereo listening. Engage the
Pure Direct mode, which shuts down unnecessary video, DSP and display
circuitry in the name of sonic purity, and you'll enjoy a properly
musical presentation.

Remember that the 763 originally cost £500 and the 863 cost £800 and only the recent price cuts brought the two closer in price.

Both Yamahas will appear in a £400-£600 AV receiver Supertest in our December issue, on sale Nov 11th (with subscribers sooner) - along with the Onkyo 606, Denon AVR-1909, Harman Kardon AVR-255, Pioneer VSX-1018AH, and Sony 2400ES.

That will comparatively test this whole range of products, explaining the differences between them in terms of movie and music performance plus tech-spec differeces.

Clare, have you had my receiver (3400) in for a review yet? I would be interested to hear what you think of it. I was wathing the Electronic Proms on Beeb HD the other night (Corinne Bailey Rae) and I used the 2 channel direct mode and was very surprised at how good it sounded in stereo.
