worth bi-amping B&W CM1?

Hi guys,

Lately I've got a chance to purchase a Cyrus X Power power amplifier with a really good bargain, how ever is it worthy to drive a pair of B&W CM1 with Cyrus 8a + X Power combo? Consider that Cyrus 8a is sufficiently good for CM1.(prise-wise, I guess the Cyrus product for CM1 should be 6a rather than 8a.)

I am expecting the sound to be more open, and perhaps brings punchier bass as well, which adds authority when playing large scale symphonies.

Cheers

Hi Peter,

Hoping me commenting on this will bump it back to the top of the forum list and get a reply from someone who has this combo. I myself have a similar set up in my sig but I am thinking about investing in an X Power too. Have to admit that I quite like running my MS902 at the moment. Old speakers yes but still a nice listen.

Looking at the B&W CM-1's, MA BX2 and Epos Epic 1's as possible replacements. I'll hopefully be demoing the speakers in the next few weeks and hope to have a few on home test before dropping the money.

Regards

If I read your post correctly, you're thinking of changing your speakers and investing in an X Power at around the same time. In your position I think I'd be minded to put the X Power budget towards more expensive speakers. Or at least try a home demo of (one or more of) the speakers you list in your post against a more expensive pair. Does that make sense?

Hi Matt,

Thanks for the reply. I think I'll heed your advice and hold of the XPower for the moment. The 6 DAC is more than capable of driving the MS's. Have them biwired but only really run the cables in to accomodate any future that may incorporate the XPower. To be honest there is so much talk of bi-amping etc that I sometimes get caught up in the moment.

As I mentioned Ill be auditioning my short list of speakers in the next few weeks and the dealer has mentioned that I can get them on home test. When I demo'd the Rega RP3 It had the Epos's hooked up and I have to say I enoyed them very much. Having come from a Teac / 902 set up that Ive had for around 12yr the Cyrus really injected the life back into the MS's. Enjoying getting back into the Hifi enviroment I have to admit. Expensive hobby though! :)

Regards

Stu
