Right...bit new to this.... so sorry for being a numbty..

Wife has ordered me a Tannoy TS 10 sub to go with my Mourdant Short 902i speakers which are powered by a Cambridge A5 amp. Speakers are not bi wired.

What is the best way to wire in the sub?

I am guessing that I use the pre - out on the amp, straight to the sub. Right?? Then use the phase / gain controls on the sub to time in the bass.

someone give me a clue...

Cheers

I cannot help, but I am glad that you asked... I was wondering this today....

with that sub and amp you would have to use the two low level inputs for L&R - so as long as your amp has pre out you just need a pair of phono/rca leads to run left and right pre out to left and right low level ins and then adjust the setting to pblend the sub in to your set up

Thanks for the replys...

I now have the sub. However the supplier (laserline) has only supplied it with a single RCA to RCA plug. Not a twin plug.

Does this matter? At the moment I have it pluged into the red pre-out on the amp, going to the red input on the sub. This leaves the white socket empty on both amp and sub.

What do you reckon?

Thanks

Dan

It will mean you're only delivering bass from the right channel to the subwoofer. You really need to get a stereo cable run, so both red (right) and white (left) channels are connected.

The cable supplied is the correct one, as it's designed to be used with an AV receiver - these usually have a single subwoofer output channel. For the stereo application you have, you're going to need to run two interconnects.

It may be possible to use a Y-adapter at the amp end - with two plugs for the preouts feeding a single socket for the subwoofer cable, but this may have some effect on the sound of the amplifier by increasing the possibility of crosstalk between the channels.

You'd have to check with Cambridge Audio whether such an arrangement could create problems, but the safest way is to go for a second cable. Maybe Tannoy could supply you with another cable identical to the one you already have, if it's a standard one that comes in the box - the company must keep such things as spares.

I am not here to help, but to envy. Boy what did you do to your wife? Order sub for you??? I wish all wives are like yours...

Thanks for all the help. I will get a stereo cable asap.

As for the wife, she hasn't heard the sub yet, so may regret her birthday present decision!

Thanks all
