Will a Dacmagic improve the musical playback in my AV system?

Grateful for any thoughts on this and any experiences members may be able to share. My current system is great, but better for movies than music. I'd like to improve musical sound if possible. I have apple lossless files being streamed to an airport express that is then connected by an optical cable to my Yamaha RX-V1800. The speakers are the KEF 3005se package. It sounds quite good and works well but I'd now like to take it to the next level for musical playback. Would adding something like a Dacmagic improve things over the DAC in the Yammy or am I hitting the limits of the KEFs for musical playback already? Thanks for any thoughts on this

The DacMagic is excellent. However, it's not a miracle worker. Your biggest issue for music playback is your sat speakers. If you had stereo speakers and/or a stereo amp, the DM would be well worth buying. Definitely not worth spending £200 on with your current set up though.

Cheers for your thoughts Gerrardasnails. I was leaning towards the same conclusion myself - but thought I'd best check with someone who had one first.

It leaves me with some tough decisions to make re: getting a decent upgrade solution to work in the space I've got.

I can't make my mind up whether to start a completely new 2 channel system for music in the living room and move my AV set up upstairs to a spare room for movie watching.

Or try to change the front L & R speakers with something that will still match the kefs and then add another amp in to drive them in the AV System.

Either way, I would need some relatively compact but high end bookshelf type speakers that can be placed close to walls as space is tight in the living room. I've a decent amount saved - £2k almost for speakers & amp whilst keeping the source the same. Would also need a dac.
