I am a complete dunce on anything like this so please help. I have Virgin internet that is fed into a Peak wireless router. The network off of this is 1 desktop and 3 laptops...all of which were running smoothly (54mbps) for a couple of years.

Recently however the wifi connection has spent most of the time not connected.... with occaisional revisits just to tease us. I can use the LAN with no issues (getting 100mbps) and if you sit in the same room as the router you can get connected wirelessly about 80% of the time. But my pc upstairs, my PS3 in the other lounge and anything else is now offline.

I have done the obvious resets etc. but I am at a loss as to what my next step is ? It's tough when so many people want to use t'internet and have to sit in the small lounge !!

Could be someone in the near vicinity using the same channel for their wi-fi network. Have a Google for wi-fi sniffer software and have a look around for other networks on the same channel as yours, then try changing channel if that looks like the prob.

Most of these seem to be geared towards getting on other peoples unprotected networks (mine is password protected0. Are there any you'd guide me towards ?

Thanks JD that was what I need. Mr E was correct and someone else is on Ch 13. There is space on Ch9 but due to the above I don't know how to change this.

Configure your wireless router
Using the network cable that came with your wireless router, you should temporarily connect your computer to one of the open LAN ports on your PEAK Wireless 54Mbps B/Band Router (any port that isn't labeled "Internet"). If you need to, turn your computer on. It should automatically connect to your router.
Next, open Internet Explorer and type in the address to configure your router. In this case the address is "http://192.168.1.254". You will be prompted for username and password. The username will be "admin" and please leave the password blank.

You can then, I think in the advanced settings menu, choose the wireless channel on which the router operates.

Thanks for the help Mr E. The only place to change the channel was in Set Up Wiz and to complete this I need the Tx Default Code. My mate has that, as he set my system up, so I'll have to wait til he comes back from work.
