Wich floorstanders are behaving better in small rooms ( 15-20 square meters)? I don't want a boomy bass ,but want better bass than my Epos M5 .I am somehow biased to standmout speakers but am curious about some smallish floors too .In fact how it sounds matters.

So , what is your experience in these?

Which amp do you currently have?

If you can get hold of pair of PMC GB1is at the right price. Or if new, although not particularly compact, Q Acoustics 2050i. Occasionally there are a few Epos M22s going for pretty good prices.

However, a floorstander will give you much more bottom end welly, so if you're not a bass head I would still recommend a good pair standmounters, as mentioned in your previous thread.

I have a similar sized room to yourself, roughly 5 mtrs x 4 mtrs. I find that my Elan 30s are more than sufficient to fill that sized space. I have them positioned either side of the chimney breast approx 30 cms from the wall.

If you like Epos then I would suggest that you try and have a listen to the Elans and see what you think.

Thank you , great feedback , I forgot to say that I prefere speakers that work best at lw volume , living in a flat , I never go over 40% vol.

What about the tannoys revolution and kefs ? Rather boomy ?

Since you are asking about the Tannoy Revolutions: I use them (DC6T) in a room of approximately 22 m2. Whether they are boomy depends largely on the placement of the speakers. They need a bit more air around them than I anticipated.

My room configuration is such that I am listening rather nearfield , the speakers are at 1.5-1.7 m from the listening place , speakers at 1.2 m from the back wall ,in front of a library ( some 0,8-0,9 m to the furniture.).This is why I asked ,a concentric speaker could help ,or one with less sound sources .

When I place my speakers that far from my furniture and wall, I don't experience any booming from the speakers. That the Tannoy's are dual concentric speakers supposedly should help in your situation (I am also sitting that close to the speakers) but I haven't really tried to assess this feature in comparison to other speakers, so I can't say anything sensible about it.

Yes , that would mean critical comparisons. Anyway , from my M5 two drivers I experience good integration ,the speakers proposed here are all similar in that ( two drivers). I wouldn't get a 4 drivers speaker to listen at that distance.

Hi Teo,

I am currently considering a move the other way; i.e to standmounts from floorstanders (see my recent post). I too have a small (ish) room of approx 16 square metres.

I have used both and currently listen to a pair of Neat Motive Se which at times, sound brilliant. There's no shortage of bass and its not usually overpowering. However, I believe that I can probably get a better soundstage from standmounts. You probably need to audition some small floorstanders (similar to the Neat Motives) and judge for yourself. I also need to do the same only with standmounts. It will come down to personal taste (as always).

Of course you're right , Pedro , but when the most close showroom is at 500 km there is a problem .And they don 't offer the possibility of listening and returning if not good.

So, I'm open to all variants

I am fallen in love in Dali speakers. I have studio type living room together with kitchen – approx. 30 sq.m., and my Dali’s are just perfect. I love Dali’s clear and punchy sound.
I would suggest you to look at Zensor 5 or higher level floorstanders from Dali.

How do they work at low volume - I mean , is the bass well contoured even at low volume .I frequently listen that way .

I read that the

Tannoys DC6T are tuned to be that way- more equilibrated at low volume. Is it real ,Broner ?

The thing is that I haven't compared the DC6Ts to other speakers, so I really have no frame of reference here. I can quite confidently say whether they are boomy or not, and in my opinion the bass works perfectly at low volumes. It isn't messy, it isn't annoying, and it's there, very confidently, but don't put too much faith in what I am telling you. Other similarly priced speakers might be better in this area or they might not be. I can't say.

Late to the party, but Dali Ikon 5.

Wonderful little speakers. Like my 6 though they don't like LOUD and deep (why I have upgraded to ADM9RS and sub)

Below that they are amazing imo. Clear, not boomy at all, easy to place and quite pretty. IMO, the treble is to die for, but that divides opinion.

Ihad the 5s at home for 2 or 3 days on trial and it was touch and go between them and the 6s at the time.

By the way, if you are a real bass head (like me) then I think the BEST option is standmounts. Whether it be active like mine, or passive.

Reason is that unless you have money to burn, even floorstanders lack bass (real bass) unless you are willing to accomodate big brutes and pay for them, so a sub will be necessary...so why not get the best standmounts you can afford and the best sub too?

If you want passive, then standmounts such as the Ikon or Mentor plus a good sub...either the Dali sub, or a REL, Velodyne, SVS, BK

If you want active then Avi ADM9RS or Dynaudio Focus 110A (comparible) or Xeo 3

You didn't specify a budget though, so it depends.
