why has my sky remote stopped controlling the volume on my surround system

i have been successfully using my sky remote to control the volume on my home cinema av surround system (sony dtr 2400 es and KEF 5.1 speaker package) and all of the sudden it won't control the volume. When I try the volume controls I get the message on tv screen 'speaker:audio system and tv volume :fixed'. The remote works everything else (ie SKY menu and changing channels etc). I even tried to change the batteries but to no avail. I haven't changed any settings and am totally at a loss as to why it's stopped working.

Any clues??

I had tried in the past, but for some reason, never worked (not that I use the Sky remote). Working now......handy when I fancy using the sky remote instead (if ever)!
