Why I caved and finally bought a 4K Blu-ray player

I didn't need a 4K Blu-ray player, but being forced to stay at home was a great reason to get one.

I have just looked round and the Sony is a good deal compared to the relatively few high end players if you can find one in stock! Streaming definitely the way forward.

My experience of streaming even a 4k picture (Disnety+) is that the quality isn't as good as from a disc.

To play all my 4k discs obviously......
Streaming is only viable if you have a half-decent internet speed. Many don't.

Streaming is highly compressed compared to physical media, with the picture bandwidth being about a quarter of that the UHD equivalent, sometimes lower - and lower than 1080p Bluray. Plus, you’re getting DVD quality sound with streaming. So from a quality point of view, streaming looks and sounds about 25 years old.

The only thing that would get me to move away from a physical disc player would be a Kaleidescape.
Just too expensive at the moment.
