Nice. But no cheap. Don't have Atacama a cheaper stand?

You didn't mention budget and the R300s are worth the effort imo.

If you want cheaper, this could be a good choice (if the right height): http://www.whathifi.com/review/soundstyle-z2

Okay. But Hifichoice says:
Difficult to dampen outer pillars (but possible)Can be a little 'lively'[/list]
Too lively? What means that?

I assume It means that the stands can "join in" with a little ringing of the un-damped metal support.

Partington also do very solid stands.

You want heavy, well made stands that can be filled.......BTW There is nothing wrong with Atacama.

They need to be tall enough to have the tweeter around ear height, when seated.

The more solid the stand, the more you are likely to pay.....and the better your speakers are likely to sound.

Why not ask the dealer what he does recommend?

The soundstyle Z2 seems nice too, but a very small top plate too. Is there a stand with a top plate for the Kef R300?

David from F.Harvey uses these (as I linked to above): http://www.hifix.co.uk/speaker-stands/atacama/hms-2.1.html

Please forgive my naivety when it comes to stands, but do stands make much of difference? Let's say a £200 stand from few years ago to current £200 efforts? Surely if a stand is well built and reduces vibrations to the speaker then, logically, there shouldn't be much difference? Or like cables have I got this totally wrong?

PP; no i don't believe in much of difference. But it must for the speakers well built. The Kef R300 aren't light ans also not so small.

- I don't think stands have evolved much over the last few years.

- Really well made solid stands (like Partington) tend to be pricier.

- Some speakers like light, but stable stands.

- Understanding how the speaker reacts with the stand, and how the stand reacts to the floor, can be crucial.

- What / If / How much you fill the stands, all makes a difference, and is down to trial and error.

The dealer advice me also to buy a subwoofer bij the R300. It'is for music. My amp is Marantz pm lite and 6004 cdp.

I know nothing about subwoofers. Which will be good with the R300? B&W?

Get them properly set up on decent stands, and you may well not feel the need for a Sub......the R300s have great bass.

If you want more bass, you would (imo) be better going for the R500 / R700s and saving the money on stands and sub.....if the dealer will work with you. They should (imo) have suggested that before advising the Sub route.

Because of my room and place of the speakers from the wall the Kef R500 is no option. Floorstanders are a no go in my room. The R300 is then for me the best choice. Kef advice stands for max. 60 cm. Some people find this not high enough and will go for 70 cm. But it seems for me 60 cm is right.

http://www.norstone-design.com/en/model/73_Walk-Stand.html

This seems nice too, but is 72 cm.

De dealer will sell a subwoofer of course. But maybe indeed i don't need it. I have the R300 since yesterday. First good stands en then we will see.

I think you are wise.

i will be very surprised if you feel the need for a sub......quite the opposide in fact. You are more likely to find yourself trying to tame the bass.

This belief will save you a fair bit of money and not affect the performance or indeed enjoyment of your system one jot.

Agree. I'm searching a solid stand with a top plate which is big enough fot the Kef R300. Not more. But what i said many stands have a plateau that seems too small or not solid enough. That's the problem.

If it continues to be an issue, buy some otherwise suitable steel stands and ask a fabricator to neatly weld a larger top plate on. If done correctly, you will not be able to tell it wasn't originally built that way.

What do you think of this?

http://customdesign.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=25_87&products_id=192&osCsid=ujql82t9k7hnmsf32jbugmjik2

By the way; the Atacama nexus 6i seems nice, but the dealer said not suitable for the Kef R300.
