Ok i'm hell bent on keeping my 1976 KEF 104 AB's,.so my question is, which set up will suit them better?...I have narrowed it down to 2......Cyrus CD8SE /8VS2 combo......or Roksan K2 amp and cd player.....I know WHF recommended the 8se/k2 amp combo, but i'd like to keep the same make for cosmetic reasons ( not always wise i know , but the other half considers looks more important than sound..)....All opinions welcome......Bill

Only one way to go - Naim. KEF Reference and Naim go together well, especially earlier Reference. Try the CD5i and Nait 5i. This pairing, as far as we're concerned, is THE pairing to beat. But by all means, try a couple of different combinations out as it's all subjective, but just make sure you audition YOUR speakers with the combination you're thinking of. Hear them with anything else and you're just wasting your time.

Thanks David....Do Hi Fi suppliers let you bring equipment home to audition? or do you have to take your speakers to them?....Bill

I think it depends on the store. Some just won't do it anymore. We tend to stick to known customers nowadays as we had a period of time when people were borrowing stuff and bringing it back with scratches and marks on. We're not talking about £200 CD players here, we're talking £1,000+ AV amps and so on. We have to sell these items on when they become discontinued, and the last thing we need is something that looks like it's been through a couple of car boot sales.

It's funny some of the looks you get when you try and charge a customer for a new facia or case to replace the one he's damaged.....
