Hi Guys

Can someone please enlighten me which might be the better package? I know ones bigger and one has the transmitter built in.

But can someone please shed some light on the screen types? I know both are made by Samsung. Isnt one screen the same as the Samsung C8000? Which one has the full array LED? And the other? I really want to know which one has the best picture??

Thanks

Tom

The 46hx903 is better with the 400hz, the 40lz903 only has 200hz.

What hi fi have reviewed both and the 46hx903 came out alot better.

In my local sony shop they said they have two of the 46hx903 then that is it of them, end off no more. Stock levels seem to have been very low and pricing can vary quite wide, i have seen it for £1950 so if you do go for it make sure you get a good deal.

Gel,

My local dealer in Milton Keynes said exactly the same to me yesterday, "2 more 46HX903 and no more." It appears to be an unusual decision to discontinue this model, he told me it was to do with screen supply or manufacture, but I detected some BS in there.

The alternative to the 46HX903 is the 46HX803. Who ever came up with these model classifications needs to be sacked!

the hx903 model has deeper blacks, quite a bit deeper apparently, and it suffers less from 3d crosstalk according to reviews, if i was going to buy one it would definately be the hx903 for these reasons....

Agree the reviews on the HX903 appear to prefer this model to the LX903. One point though, not sure the HX903 is 400hz. It has the 400 motionflow, but there is something in the small writing about this being a 200 hz with a 400 motionflow. Just a point.

Well, my wife has just said 46" is too big. So I think that narrows it down.

What do people think about the tv?? LX903

Also the sofas are a an angle to the TV and we usually lie down on them therefore at an angle. is 3d quality decreased by lying down or at an angle other than straight on??

Just checked that out and on the Sony website it says 400 motionflow yep but then looking on websites where people are selling it, it says 400hz pro - bit confusing.

afaik its 200hz with a scanning backlight that gives a kind of pseudo 400 hz effect, in other words its 200hz plus marketing blurb...

You know 46inches these days is not that big, might be worth showing the measurements to her?

But with the 40inches here is the 40hx803 review

http://www.whathifi.com/Review/Sony-KDL-40HX803/

The 40lx903 review is not on here yet but has been in the magazine:

It gets four stars too but a strong four star review with the only problem being 3d with cross-talk, it seems to be quite bad.

Like Max says the black levels appear to be very good though and you get a better build quality tv.

agree with Gel. Ask your wife to trust you! I stretched my marriage to its limit by ordering the largest tv I could fit and I look at it now and think, I could have gone bigger .... and the wife agrees - well she doesn't entirely agree with the 'let's get a bigger one' idea, but she certainly agrees that the tv we have is ideal for the room. There was a time when she wouldn't have allowed me a 32 " tv in the room.

So basically what I am saying is - tell her you are getting the 40 and order the 46 and say they must have made a mistake at the shop - once it is over the threshold mission complete. She'll thank you in the long run, honest.

3d well that's a different issue. Lots of opinions but it basically boils down to, technology is still very young in home televisions and still has a little way to go. It isn't perfect but does give a different experience to 2D. You should try for a larger screen as this works better with 3d viewing.

Are we just being picky hear guys? £2000 is a good sum for a television. The average joe would possibly spend half of that on the high street. So for the money I expect it to be a good television.

Im not fussed about whats blacks are darker.

Whats that cross-talk mean?

Yep, all of these Sony tvs we are talking about are very good

Cross-talk is where there is image ghosting or doubling of the image, i personally would demo the tvs and see which one you think is best for you. Like someone has said 3d can look even better on a bigger screen.

Buy the 46", but tell her it's only 40".

She won't expect a man to say something is smaller than it actually is, so you'll have a happy wife, and a big TV.

Hi all, am fairly new to this forum - just bought myself the 40 inch version after watching a demo in the shop - which I have to say blew me away. It's due to arrive next Monday so after reading the new review on this site and all these posts I am now wondering if I have made a mistake!

Can someone reassure me before I go completely crazy after spending a small fortune?

Aaargh...

Why are you worried? Did you demo on all sources?

Reviews aren't everything, as long as it looks good to you is all that counts.

I find that What Hi-Fi are pretty good on reviews, the demo I had in the shop was excellent, and I watched normal tv and then on to 3D (which what really sold me the product). It wasn't an extensive Demo - I was there for maybe 15 minutes - not sure what 'all sources' means...?

You could always go and have a second demo just to make 100% sure it is right for you? All sources just means normal tv, blu ray and 3d.

Hi, it is worth taking some of your own material when considering buying a TV. If you are planning to watch 3d then perhaps buy yourself a 3d blu-ray too. Reason I suggest this is because the material that you will have watched on demo for 3d particularly, is likely to be their demo discs? is this correct?

I watched 3d on the Sony 3d demo disc and found when I got the tv home there is a huge variety in the quality of 3d material; ranging from good to poor.

The basic level is the 2d material which is converted through the Sony tv. I personally found this on the HX903 to be pretty poor. Then there is the material that is converted at source, i.e. a film which is reproduced in 3d. This again can provide a variety of results and again in my experience, isn't always very convincing. Finally the 3d material which has been filmed in 3d using particular cinematography to make the best of the technology. This can be quite impressive. My only advice is don't be fooled into thinking that everything you watch will be to this standard. I suggest it won't and you may be a little disappointed on the current capability of 3d generally.

As Gel suggests, if you can compare the 40 and 46 models in the store then you should do, just to make sure you have the right model and the right price/budget. Again I would suggest taking some of you own material - DVD and Blu-ray to see how the tv handles both.

I was worried in the store when watching SD 2D and asked them to connect the TV to Sky HD - which they did. This alleviated my concerns over the SD capabilities of the TV and showed that the HD content was far better. I now restrict almost all of my viewing to Sky HD and Blu-ray and have no difficulty in finding the stuff I want to watch and I am very happy with my choice.

Good luck.
