Which is the best decoder?

I was just wondering if someone can please tell me if i should let my PIONEER BDP-LX52 blue ray player and then pass the processed signal via hdmi to my PIONEER SC-LX82 receiver or vice versa. Common sense dictate's to me that to get better sound and vision i should let my bd player bitstream straight to my receiver via hdmi and let the receiver handle the decoding because it's supposed to have superior decoding abilities, is this true or not. Thank's
