Hi, as the title suggests i need to know which type of connection or lead eg optical or digital cable would give me the best sound quality possible. As far as i am aware i do need to connect my basic SKY box via a digital or optical lead to my newly purchased PIONEER SC-LX82 a/v amp does the same apply for the SKY HD box or would the HDMI lead on the SKY HD box take care of the audio as well. Thank's

daveh75:Sky+HD boxes can only output stereo over HDMI, so if you want Dolby Digital 5.1 sound you'll need to use an optical/coaxial cable.

And connect the Sky box to your TV via HDMI

Or Receiver/amp, but i thought that was kind of obvious, and why i didn't mention it...

In terms of pictire - in the OP's case i'd suggest connecting via HDMI to the Pioneer and use the receiver's video-upscaling capabilities rather than that of the Sky box (by setting the box to output at Auto).

So let me get this right firstly i connect the sky box via HDMI to my KURO tv then i connect my receiver via optical or digital coax cable.

OR

Do I connect the sky box via optical or digital coax to the PIONEER receiver then connect the receiver to the KURO tv via hdmi thus letting the receiver do the video-upscaling. Am i right or not also Clair can you please tell me if i should use a optical or digital coax cable so that i get the best sound quality. Also if i have got the above wrong then would it be possible for you to describe more clearly how to connect the sky box to the receiver so that the receiver is doing the video-upscaling rather then the sky box and why is it better that i use the receiver's video-upscaling rather than that of the sky box, sorry but i am knew to all this stuff. Thanks

OR

Do I connect the sky box via optical or digital coax to the PIONEER receiver then connect the receiver to the KURO tv via hdmi thus letting the receiver do the video-upscaling.Optical/coaxial only carries audio! So you would also need to run an HDMI from the Sky box to receiver in order to use it upscaling capabilities.

Either option will be better than letting the Sky box do the upscaling.

can you please tell me if i should use a optical or digital coax cable so that i get the best sound quality.Either will be fine!!!

why is it better that i use the receiver's video-upscaling rather than that of the sky box, sorry but i am knew to all this stuff. ThanksBecause Sky boxes are produced from cheap/poor quality components and as a result are poor at upscaling and de-interlacing for that matter.
