I'm in the market for a new Blu-ray player my budget is around £500, having read all the reviews i can't decide between the Pioneer BDP-LX52 or Sony BDP-S760 i understand there are pro's and con's for both but a little nudge in the decision making process would be appreciated guys.

Best thing I would say is to demo both on the same screen at an independent dealer so no bias from the sales bod. Even better if you have a freindly local specialist who can loan them to you overnight.

I don't think either will disappoint. Other than that I can't help but lean toward the pioneer.

Think I read somewhere on here, Clare (Editor), suggest that the pioneer 'pips' the sony, but only just marginally.

But saying that, the Sony can be had for £300, and the Pioneer is still £500........

Is £200 extra worth it?

gel, please do not drag your near-obsessive vendetta against 2009 Pioneer models into EVERY discussion on Blu-ray - it really doesn't help anybody.

Back to the OP- yes, a demo would settle which is best for you. Having spent a lot of time with both players, the Sony is undoubtedly better value and an astonishing performer for £400, let alone the £300 you can buy it for these days. It's also faster to use and has some neater features (eg the wi-fi support) than the Pioneer.

However, if you've a Full HD Pioneer Kuro plasma, or use a recent Pioneer receiver, i'd lean towards the LX52. It's a very slightly richer-looking/sounding proposition than the Sony, and suits its sibling products perfectly.

Yep, that wins "most bewildering post of the day"

Really? I thought it was a good reply to the comments posted above!!!

Hi Clare,

I'm in the same situation as the OP on which player to choose from, difference being I only have a 'HD ready' Kuro screen.

Would you still recommend the Pioneer over the Sony in this case?

Cheers

Alears:
... I, as well as many others, would dearly like to know where you can get the Sony for £300, I'll be in there like a shot...
