Hi all

I'm about to buy my first blu-ray player. Amazon are selling the BD80 for £215 and the S760 for £315.

I need the analogue outputs as my amp (Sony STR DB940) does not have an HDMI and I'm running Tannoy Revolutions (floor standers / centre / rears / no sub). I bougth this lot about 8 years ago and it's working fine, so I've no plans to upgrade. TV is a year old Panasonic 42PZ81B.

Will the BD80 for £215 be enough for my set up, appreciate the S760 has received a fanastic review, but it's £100 dearer. But if it's worth the extra I will strech to the dearer Sony.

Any advise will be much appreciated.

Thanks

I think the Sony's marginally better in terms of audio performance, although I don't think you'd be anything less than satisfied with the Panasonic bd80's performance in isolation. Picture wise, they seemed identical on a Philips 42PFL7404, which admittedly isn't exactly reference standard so not as revealing as the finest Panasonic or Pioneer Kuro plasma's, but a very good TV nonetheless.

Tbh, I think for the price of £215 the BD80 is better value for money. The only 2 things which really detract are: slowish loading times, and (IMO) a cheap feeling remote, albeit one that's easy to use!

If you're not fussed about the feel of the remote and after demming the bd80's loading times in a store find them acceptable, I'd go for that.
