Onkyo are also classed as bright by the way so 'may' not be a great pairing, but your ears will have to decide what is right for you.

You really need to demo the speakers with a selection of amps to get the best idea, but even then, when you get them home into your room, they will sound different, but you'll get a fair idea by demoing.

just read this

" Because the RX-V765 has a slightly forward sound, I wouldn't suggest
mating it to speakers that exhibit the same or similar traits, for it
may prove to be too much of a good thing."

whats "forward" in that context ?? andrew ? anyone ?

Marantz receivers are usually better with music, but that isn't to say they are poor with movies, which they aren't. They just may not have the outright movie 'umph' you'd get with other receivers.

Don't read too much into power ratings. Usually, on some of the medium to lower priced receivers where they document alot of power, are in actual fact nowhere near that.

Price will reflect quality and audio performance. You can't expect a £300 amp to sound as good as a £600 one.

I can't seem to link to the Marantz amp on that website. What is the model?

yesthats too dear , although im sure hed knock some off .. ill be looking at the onkyo 507 if i get the wharfedales , no need for a 7.1 amp , the 507 does everything else the 607 does that i require , and its a good bit cheaper

Hi maxflinn, i trust your well.

As the other thread says I am in the same boat. I have MS Alumni / Aviano (front pair) which What Hi Fi say are bright, so want a warm amp.

People say Denon and Yamaha are warm, but cant seem to say why.... one posters (sorry I cant remember who) suggested that 'bright' was trebley and 'warm' was mid /bassey. This would make sense to me as far as speakers go.

Would be nice to hear from an expert (the team or shop owners) as to how/why an amp is warm or bright? And yes, what is 'forward'! is that the new 'bright'?

I know I should demo, but I dont have time, and when I did, its all sounded different in my own house.

For me I have my eye on Denon 1910 (now £380 from £450) and Yamaha 765 (down to £300 from £550). Then I like the idea of the Sony 2400 as its auto set up is good, but cant find out if its warm or bright, so I guess its neutral?

I just want the best amp for my speakers and it seems opinion is harder to come by when you dont have a 5 star rated product....(guess thats another thread maybe!)

Cheers!

PS The Sony WE5 is going well!

yes it is a hard one to solve , this warm and bright conundrom , i too had hoped that someone from whfi may shed some light on the issue , but they are playing hard to get , maybe they are on a skeleton crew because of the hols ?? (or ive just peed them off so often thaey wont help

) , maybe we will get some feedback tmw ..

i think the trouble with web searches regarding the warm , bright , forward , cold , neutral etc definition of these amps , is that you often end up on another forum , reading someone elses interpretation of it , and half of them are not sure themselves

im also looking at the denon and yamaha , which i also understand to be warm , thats if i get the mission speakers , which are said to be bright , if i get the wharfedale ones im trying to buy , warm , ill need a bright amp , im being told , sony , pioneer , or onkyo , which is said to be neutral , lord help us ,

Hi ear

I had a demo with some tannoy speakers, they was not the ones I have, the hifi shop I had the demo in said they only had the old tannoy REVOLUTION series not the new ones that are about, all I asked if they add any tannoy speakers to demo on and that all they add.

Would have liked to hear it on mine tannoys as they have super tweeters, which are a lot more open then the Revolution's.

To max and nick

The best way to explain forward in sound to me is to think of a voices coming out of a loudspeaker, now if the voice was like in your face then its forward in presentation , likes to shout a little, the opposite to that is if the voice is mellow or calm sounding which someone would describe as laid back.

On a personal note, I like a forward sound in voices.

Hope that helps a little.

All the best.
