where to upgrade.

I'm writing this on behalf of a friend who isn't online yet. He wants to upgrade either his C.D. player or Power amp . What do you think? His system consists of, Arcam Alpha 7 SE , C.D. Player. Arcam A 65 , Amp. Cambridge Audio P 500, Power Amp. Mission 773 , Speakers.

Is he using the power amp to biamp with the A65, or just using the A65 as a preamp?

Then I think probably CD player is the way to go, and at the risk of being rather corporate, I'd suggest your friend checks out the October issue of the magazine, which has a fascinating CD player shoot-out with a surprise winner. I could tell you more, but then Clare would have to shoot me.

Thanks for that , been in touch with my friend and I beleive he bi-amps the Arcam with the Cambridge Audio , would you still go with the C.D. player as the source for the upgrade. Thanks again.

That would suggest a tonal imbalance between the two amps - one route might be to look for a secondhand Arcam 8P power amp for use in the biamping, which will balance things up a bit better. Then consider the CD player...
