I have purchase a B&W 684 Home Theatre kit with the ASW 610 Subwoofer, I am not sure where to place it and is it possible to place it under a table or somewhere out of sight (forgot to show the wife that this was part of the kit and she may want it out sight if poss).

You can put a sub almost anywhere you like as they arnt directional etc

When i first got my subs i tried putting them everywhere in my room for the best position & i found that placing them at the front of the room next to my main speakers was the best point for max bass, but this is just my personal choice.

It can be a pain setting up a sub & moving it around the room as there not exactly lightweights but this is what you may have to do in order to get your preferred point as for placing it under a table i dont see why not, just give it a try mark.

Yep, I'd go with what Jase has said. Chances are you'll find the best place for it acoustically is the place it will be most inconvenient! So from there it's working out the best compromise between acoustic placement and practical placement.

Don't forget to try changing the phase when moving it around - you should find one will sound better than the other depending on your room and your own preferences.ÿ

put the sub where you normally sit then walk round the room to see where it sounds the best you might have to get closer to the ground for this and that where you should put it - you will prob find that there is a couple of sweet spots so just decided where its less visable - have to say mine is in the corner next to my front left speaker.

Hi,

Max bass isn't necessarily the best sounding option, especially with a reasonably beefy sub. Placing it under a table, too close to a wall and especially in a corner will likely reinforce the bass to the point where it sounds unpleasant and boomy. Crawling round the room looking for sweet spots is the best option, but if you don't fancy that, try it between your centre and one of your front speakers or at the side between your front and rear speakers. Try to avoid placing it an equal distance between any two facing walls.

Hi. I have two subwoofers. One near my front speakers, the other one hidden at the back of my sofa.

I'm back in that sub tuning "place" again and it's driving me nuts.

The 180deg phase shift is meant to allow you to select whichever sounds louder, thus getting it right for where you sit (one of many factors). When I go 180deg out of phase, the bass is lesser but much, much tighter (some acoustic cancellation going on here I suspect). When going back to 0deg it becomes louder and fuller, but muddier. Has anyone any thoughts and experience on this? I can't decide which timing is worse for the music!

Perhaps I should just stop worrying about it or buy a decent sub!

I have the same thing, igglebert. ÿMy solution has been to go with the 'tighter' phase position, but turn up the sub volume a little. ÿAs stated previously, 'more' bass isn't necessarily better bass, but a bit of judicious twiddling can help you to achieve the effect that you want! ÿ
