Most of my collection i've bought in bulk from friends emigrating or folk selling their Hi-Fi kit. I used to get a few bits from CD Wow but tbh fround their website hard to use and was annoyed at endless CD's turning up in broken cases.

Last few CD's i've bought have been from the Lamb's CD store in York. Specialise in Classics and Jazz, great little independant shop. Well worth calling in if you're nearby.

Mostly in or around Edinburgh these days, with the occasional foray into Ebay when it's something I'm keen to get I can't ordinarily land otherwise.

Record shops are still my preferred option, but you can't fail to check out the charity shops too - picked up a copy of Sting's Sacred Love SACD disc for £3 the other day and it's in fine condition.

In order

Independant online dealers for bands I find on Myspace.
Amazon.co.uk
CDWOW (rare as they dont have 1% of what I want to buy these days)

..but 100% online.
(I love the new package in the mail feeling)

amazon used and new mostly. we havent really got a music shop here, unless you count woolies. we have one that sells second hand stuff and i like to trade with them a bit.

recently ordered a copy of the new bumblefoot album direct fom the label tho. signed, dontcha know.and only about 13£. so, good for ebay if nowt else.

i've made all of 2 purchases from itunes i think, but might have to get the new itunes exclusive rem live in london.

Sister Ray, Selectadisc, Reckless records (Berwick street, London)- Wonderful selection of everything old and new)

Eukatech records (covent garden _ Techno, electonica, Dub)

Fopp ( Covent Garden, Tottenham Cour Road)- cheaper than HMV and good selection

Picadilly Records (Manchester) Best record shop in Manchester!!

Bleep.com ( link from Warprecords.com)- all things electronica

Amazon.co.uk ( for bits and bobs)

CD WOW, Play or bargains in shops - for example I found a great CD shop in Cheltenham whilst on holiday for a few days there recently - everything £5.00!!

Play or Amazon mostly for me. Sometimes Tesco Jersey.

Only time I really buy stuff in the shops is when I'm in Jersey, either from HMV, Woolies or one of the indie shops. Usually some bargains to be had.

I don't like CD-Wow as much as I used to, though they're still good for Far East special editions. Bought a couple of Feeder albums (I know, I know...) from them for £9 or so, which HMV are selling for £30-odds.

Graham_Thomas - i used to use one in cheltenham...badlands...? they had a big hmv and virgin there too, which was handy.

chalkies in banbury and bicester...record savings in banbury...those were the days.

Lately pretty much all ebay.

Vinyl is really cheap and so are cd's, especially as all I am currently buying is older stuff.

Ah yes, Fopp, you can't go wrong there - brilliant shop, currently doing a stack of good CDs for £3 in the Edinburgh store - tons of real finds!

Loads from Amazon, then mostly Borders and HMV. Love the Manchester HMV for its classical and jazz department. I've also started using the Chandos website for downloading lossless audio files from their superb catalogue.

For vinyl, a little record shop called 'Saddle Records' on a backstreet in Blackpool. Not been for ages - must pay them a visit.

Good Vibrations records (nice selection of second hand vinyl - they have an ebay shop too)
Selectadisc
Fopp
Zavvi - I used to avoid spending my money in the big chains, preferring to support the small independents. However, by the looks of my local Zavvi these days it could use all the help it can get. I also like the fact that you can barcode scan the CDs at the listening posts and get a preview.

We use to have a few Andy's record shops in Norfolk but they have gone bust for a while now so just big boys left around my neck of woods, you know the like of HMV and Virgin.

jimdonnelly:Fopp in Glasgow for me. Same here, but i always try and support monorail if i can even if its £1-2 more expensive at times.

Various. Vinyl comes from either car boot sales or whatrecords.co.uk (for new/audiophile stuff), whilst CDs generally come from Amazon, or 2nd hand off ebay - currently trying to complete my Beatles CD collection for less than £5 a CD inc shipping - 's a good game to play!

I do use Napster though to listen to albums before purchasing them, to make sure that they are worth the shelf space. £9.99 a month for the service seems pretty reasonable, but wouldn't consider buying albums from them as 192kbps wma is not my cup of tea!

mainly Amazon or HMV, Amaazon marketplace or ebay is good as a lot of people are selling their CDs after ripping. them onto a hardrive.
Becausm of this recent fad, you can get perfectly good Cds very cheaply, yesterday I got an excellent Beethoven CD for £1 plus p&p.

Many years ago a nearby small town boasted no less than five shops I could buy records from. Nowadays in a fairly large town there is a choice of just two big names. Shame.

Back to the present. Most of my purchases are now made online.

Vinyl - various independents including a firm called The Rock Box from Surrey. I used to buy a lot from a nearby shop called Past And Present Records but they have now closed down. A good second hand shop called Sellanby has also closed. They`d been going since around 1974/5.

CD - Amazon, HMV online, ST Records from the West Midlands, GFT from Surrey plus various others mostly from the small ads at the back of Classic Rock magazine.
