I used to subscribe to Spotify mostly because my brother also did, and we used to share Spotify findings. Since his passing, I moved to Amazon and use it some for discovery of new albums, especially. My brother and I always shared a preference for albums vs. (only or mostly individual) tracks.
I have three primary ways of finding new albums and new artists:
First, I am very fortunate to have access to an excellent public library that continuously adds to its collections. including of much diverse music --CDs, especially, and even LPs. I review it once or twice a week.
Second, I have friends and relatives who occasionally share favorites (or finds) of theirs. When I visit, I will sometimes "sneak" a peek at their collections of CDs, though there is less of that these days, as everywhere. Some also send me youtube links, but again I'm not into tracks, nor am I into youtube /music videos which is the most common modern method. The latter is also the most common way to share here and elsewhere on line. People most commonly watch music videos in these times.
Third, is my long-term favorite personal and unusual method. Though less common for me, I'll share because a few loved ones have gotten into it as well. I identify a favorite song or composition, such as "Ain't No Sunshine", or "'Round Midnight", or "Always on My Mind". or "Straighten Up and Fly Right", "The Four Seasons", etc., etc.. I've found that I like finding artists who choose to and CAN perform my favorites (as) well, nicely, impressively, amazingly, etc.. I specifically recall discovering Eva Cassidy, Grant Green, and most recently, Sarah Chang through these means, Yes, most are artists and albums that are new to me only, but that is the point, my aim.
Thanks for asking, 😍
watch music while i´m driving in the countryside wich is hard and if not a good 4x4 truck , would be impossible so i´m driving and listening to music is a great plus but watch ,not even at home ,
but when waking up i have a channel that put´s old videos, rock related or 90´s real success bands, like soundgarden not those boys bands or britney ,
on MTV they show the 90´s like if we all had 9 years old, at the time but i have to say that in late 80´s and early 90´s they had good shows with great musicians,
sunday night Ritz concerts in New York, later 120 minuts with a guy that was a a one hit wonder and was usual to say he created most of the fashions because on a video kids painted Doc.Martins with spray ,love & Pride was a song of his,
only Spotify made me spend money again on records and cds, a source of information if you were into music , made 1.089 playlists since 2017, before i didnt pay and recorded songs i had not in minidisc.
when watching the post i noticed CAN in big letters and i thought " a guy with good taste" almost all forget about CAN,
In the past i would go around all city to meet my known friends who had older brothers and in one afternoon i would gather 7 to 10 albuns i wanted to record,
after some monthes again, returning the records and finding out more guys with older brothers .
when 13 to 14 years old, it´s incredible how good lp records were inside drawers, only by this time a lot had some bags to keep singles , a lot were only buying singles,
and as i had not much money i went to my fathers old recorded reels and record them with my favorite music, first had a Grundig with a lot of speeds and huge(50´s maybe) than a 1970, X-165D from Akai that still works. and records and plays with a high quality, still have everything that came with it, even some fluid to clean tapes by using something similar to cigars filters on the capstan, never did it
