Well my Marantz CD63SE arrived yesterday by surprise next day delivery....and very pleased.
I thought I might be taking a bit of a risk with the age of this unit (from approx. 1995) but the E Bay seller has very good feedback with lots of other serviced quality gear for sale so I decided to take the plunge and glad that I did. I wondered if I might need to use an external DAC to get a good sound from it but no, the sound is amazing direct from the analogue outputs. The drawer mechanism is quick and quiet and it reads discs instantly, possibly even quicker than my CD6007. Happy days!

I don't think DACs have actually improved all that much, and in fact I often find myself preferring the sound of older CD players using their analogue outputs. The CD63SE is a fine machine, and I don't think it needs any external assistance.

It's all so subjective but no this Marantz doesn't seem to need any help at all. And yet about 15 years ago I changed my Arcam Alpha 7 cd player for a Marantz CD6004 and was amazed at the leap in sound quality. The Arcam's sound had become dull to me and the Marantz sounded fantastic by comparison. The thing is there are other variables like the difference in individual machines and also our hearing which changes over time that may explain it.

This has had me scratching since the day i orderd it when i knew it was in store ready for collection the itch got worse .I decided to leave work early today to go and collect the TT before they closed and not reopen until Monday i would have regretted if i hadn't glad i did nice Easter present to relax with.

The store is a fair way from the shopping centre car park being 11.5 kilos its not light to carry my god is it heavy ,my arms were killing me had to keep stopping to take a rest.

I get it home unbox it to my surprise there is a sealed Ortofon bronze Concorde cartrige included wow thats £300 pounds worth and it saves me aligning and a easier setup im very pleased now .

The deck feels very well made no plastic the tone arm lever works perfectly after the horrors i read on here about tone arm levers.Ive never seen such a thick power lead defiantly glad i paid more but got it at a bargin price .technics TT.png

There is not a mark on it perfect condition i was worried because RS dont give a very good description on clearance items, it stated refurbished .
now for the set up wish me luck 😄

Yep, looks like a bargain with the included cartridge and, as you say, it's not a cheap one.....
