I have just ordered 2 Monitor Audio Apex A10 speakers to use as my 2 rear channels to match my new GX100 and GXC150 Centre speakers.

I will be mounting the speakers in the back corners or my room which is rectangle in shape

My questions is what way up do I mount the speakers.

Most dedicated rear channel speakers i.e. the GXFX have the tweeter at the bottom and the driver above it.

I have the option to mount the A10's upside down so that they are in the same array i.e. tweeter at the bottom?

Anyone any suggestions as to why this is maybe a good or a bad idea generally.

I dont know why manufacturers make the speakers with the tweeter at the bottom so someone may know this??

Thanks for the help

When ceiling-mounting, Monitor Audio indicates that the speakers should be fitted upside-down, so if you are mounting them up high on the wall, it seems sensible to follow that advice.

This will allow the tweeter to be closer to the ear-level of listeners, which – given that treble is more directional than bass – is a good thing.

Hi Andrew

Thanks for the fast respone - that was my way in thinking - however my worry was the tweeter being on ear level.

I thought the idea of surrounds was to create a partial diffuse sound - or fully diffused with bipoles etc therefore having the tweeter closer to the ear will stop that to a degree?

I might be very wrong in assuming that??

Not at all, but I was assuming you were going to mount the speakers higher up, as I said, so better to have the tweeter nearer to the listener than the bass driver. If the speakers are going to be used at ear level, mount them the usual way up, tweeter above bass.

MA suggest placement about 2 feet above the listening position or standing height.

I am a short a** so 2 feet is likely a better bet. My current rears are high up - they are a typical flat rear speaker design with the tweeter below. They are much larger than the A10 so placement was limited in the corner - however the A10 can go at more varied heights.

so if not placing very high tweetwe normal height - if placing high up then tweeter below - now the decision is the correct height? Thansk again Andrew

the only issue with that is keeping them there while you calibrate the system properly and then giving it time to listen.

once mounted i dont think its possible to turn them 180 degrees on that axis - if that is possible then great?

rears are not like stereo I find you have to spend quite a bit of time watching to get a full test / base an opinion - time is a bit limited for me atm
