Aside from my Hitachi 3D suoerwoofer, my 1st system was something I pieced together by purchasing 2nd hand when I was 14 I think... It was a Rega rp3, musical fidility B1 amp and a set of Heybrook HB 1 speakers I think...

I had a Teleton music centre which was a Which? Best buy in the early to mid 1970s. The stylus was only available from Teleton so I made the journey to their distribution centre near Chelmsford, Essex for a replacement. It stopped working and I took it there for investigation and they found mains plug connections were loose. Felt such a chump.

We had a thread on this before the war (!) and my entry was all Pioneer 'cos I was serving in Germany in the 70s and they were so cheap:

RT 909 Open Reel, CT F1250 Cassette Recorder, PL L1000 Tangential Arm, SA 9900 Int Amp all feeding into some Pioneer speakers or other - can't remember the model.

In a Rack!

I went to college at 16 in 1986 and with some of my grant, I paid £325 for a Philips FCD562 and I used it constantly, for over 2 years. Only 10W per channel, but the sound quality was terrific. The CD player was at the bottom, with a tinted plastic door and you could see the green LED shining onto the disc, to allow the IR laser to focus properly. I think that was the idea. I loved it and it makes me feel really old, looking back to those early days in HIFI. Time flies!

I was 16 or 17 and it was a full pioneer stack go the whole lot for 300-400quid saved like mad for months!
Amp a107, cd player PD -904 stable platter, mini disc ( i was really into these at the time) MJ-D 707 and to top it all off I had some mission 700's WHICH i still have to this day the speakers that is.

Had many more systems through the years but the discovery, interaction (spent hours with the mini disc player) and fun I had with this system I've never managed to recapture again.

As I would expect, yours have lasted well.
Mine were perfect when sold to a friend. He had them a while, not sure why for him, but the mid / bass cone surrounds crumbled to dust - so I got them back (I take in everyone's cast- offs).

And yes, Minidisc, great fun (I played around with the top of the range UK tuned Sony deck - with editing capabilities only now matched by computer programs).

B&O Beocenter 2002 with matching B&O speakers. Got it in 1982 but I didn't new hire good quality I had in my hands - especially the speakers. Got a random Sony system instead in 1990. Changed the speakers too some years after. So sad. I was in my late 40ies before I got a better system
