They be on Rise Above Records...

2 albums so far...The Weirding, and The Black Chord

What do they sound like? Well, early Sabbath, a slice of Pink Floyd, a seventies feel to the production. It's progtastic. I saw them live in April 2013 and they were bloody great.

Yes I like them too. If Mellotrons are your thing then you'll love The Weirding.

I thought somebody had better post in this thread before it gets relegated to page 2 in favour of questions about preamps and the like.

Joe Cocker: 'Mad Dogs And Englishmen'. Hmm. Well, it's a great live record but, having listened to it a few times, I've got some reservations that I think I've always had...the youtube videos back it up really. Joe is in great voice throughout but he is really having to battle the enormous assemblage of players and singers just to be heard; the tour all but wiped him out, mentally, apparently and I think the effort he had to expend each night must have been very draining. Sides 3 and 4 of the double album are sublimely soulful.

David Blue: ' Stories' and 'Nice Baby And The Angel'. Great records.

The Only Ones: 'Even Serpents Shine'. The perfect antidote to the cloying sentimentality of Christmas. Sex and drugs and rock 'n' roll...and lashings of sleaze. Those guitars! That whining voice! The ennui! One of the greatest records ever made.

Happy New Year to everybody.

Today, in between parties,

Can – Monster Movie
Sly & The Family Stone – There's a Riot Goin' On

Not sure if that counts as wonderful vinyl, but I'm enjoying it!

Wishing all you vinyl fellows a topping year ahead.

A while since I properly posted, this site still annoys me when trying to post anything lengthy (have lost a few posts recently). It has been quiet, hopefully will pick up now Christmas is over and Steve is allowed to post again!

Over the last week have been listening to an eclectic lot but all great music.

The Smiths - Rank

Malcolm McLaren - Waltz Darling (one of my all time faves, a real system tester)

The Smiths- Strangeways Here We Come

Talking Heads - True Stories

MIA - Maya

The Beatles - No 1s

Imagine Peise - Atlas Eets Christmas (a Flaming Lips recording, odd lounge piano)

Lissie - Back to Forever

Talking Heads - The Name of this Band is Talking Heads (great live album taking in the band as a 4 piece in '77 and '79 on sides A and B, the the 10 piece from '80 to '81, one band I really wish I had seen live that I will never get the opportunity to. Has been rereleased on cd with extended track listing)

Adam Ant - The Blue Black Hussar

Mazzy Star - Seasons of Your Day

Django Django - Django Django

The White Stripes - Elephant

Royal Blood - Royal Blood (great rock album, believe the hype, but can they do a second album and do something different?)

The Amazing Snakeheads - Amphetamine Ballads (one of the best gigs I have been to in the last few years, raw energy, 'fights' between the band and crowd, took me back to my teenage years seeing bands on the back of pubs with the local biker gang acting as security with the ubiquitous axe under the till in case of any trouble!)

Wild Beasts - Two Dancers

Cocteau Twins - Blue Bell Knoll

Elbow - The Take Off And Landing Of Everything

Peter Gabriel - So

Bellowhead - Revival

TV On The Radio - Dear Science

Divine Styler - Def Mask

Playing whilst I type this:

The Afghan Whigs - Black Love

Plenty more to come over the weekend. Off to see The Hobbit tonight at the local independent cinema.

Happy New Year to you all

Sinkane - Mars

SBTRKT - Wonder Where We Land

Belly - Star

The War On Drugs - Lost In The Dream (album of the year everywhere and rightly so, also amazing live)

The Civil Wars - The Civil Wars

Going back to my teenage years in the 80s and one of my all time fave bands

Echo & The Bunnymen - Crocodiles

Echo & The Bunnymen - Heaven Up Here

Echo & The Bunnymen - Porcupine

Echo & The Bunnymen - Ocean Rain

Echo & The Bunnymen - Echo & The Bunnymen

Final few for this evening

Orange Juice - Rip It Up

Adam & The Ants - Dirk Wears White Sox

Televsion - Marquee Moon

Miles Davis and Sonny Rollins - Dig

Jónsi – Go
Mogwai – Rock Action

which I bought from my new local record shop last week. They sound a lot better after cleaning. The Cat Power album was seriously warped and will have to go back.

Happy New Year.....and new term, Charlie.

Nice and varied list apu.

I'm a big fan of those first two Paul McCartney records and I don't know why...nostalgia, a bit lo-fi, warm and cosy stuff, perhaps. 'Maybe I'm Amazed' is his best-ever song in my book.

Haven't played 'No Reason To Cry' in yonks...must dig it out.

All the best...nice to see you; to see you....
