I'm playing this again, because not only is it a great pressing, it's a great sounding record, and the songs are all awesome. I do love this album.BIGBERNARDBRESSLAW said:

Hope it works out.

Oh well. Another time, perhaps.
love that album too, which cover and inner sleeve do you have. I have a yellow outer cover and orange inner, makes all the difference of course.BIGBERNARDBRESSLAW said:I'm playing this again, because not only is it a great pressing, it's a great sounding record, and the songs are all awesome. Never had the second album, was out of the country at the time. Any good?BIGBERNARDBRESSLAW said:Outer as picture, inner is orange.
The Sugarcubes seem to like their varied sleeves. I have the second album album with the group name and title in Icelandic.
I couldn't tell you. I bought it at a car boot sale last year (I think), and I've never got around to playing it. I will soon.jimbofisher said:Never had the second album, was out of the country at the time. Any good?

That's an interesting haul you've got listed there. Did you really make your way through the entirety of Golden Lights?
I have a feeling that the Twinkle album "Golden Lights" was actually issued on vinyl on the RPM label, but I'm struggling to find it anywhere.Jim-W said:'Golden Lights' is shocking of course but, yep, I did make it through to the end. The 12" reveals the full horror of the endeavour.
Blimey, that's a great way to start a Sunday/any day. I love Van's version but yes Ray Charles' is something else. What a song, what a performance.Jim-W said:Hi Charlie.Charlie Jefferson said:Hi Jim,Jim-W said:Record Market Day is every Saturday and you can't beat crate-digging so I'm playing:

I know you're a Van fan and I guess you'll have a copy of, 'It's Too Late To Stop Now' ; 'I Believe To My Soul' is one of the great Van performances, for me, on the record and yesterday, oddly for the first time, I heard the Ray Charles original. I don't know if you've heard it but give it a listen on Spotify or youtube: it's remakable. Van's version stays remarkably close to the original but Ray's voice is just so powerful and cutting without the strings. In fact the 'What'd I Say' album is a real find even though it's somewhat crackly! I'll look for a better copy but give it a listen, Charlie, I think you'd like it.
Hi Charlie, no, no worries, you didn't sound like you were rubbing it in at all. I'm glad that a genuine music fan managed to get a copy. What does annoy me is that without any particular effort I found at least 10 copies of it on eBay by yesterday afternoon!! I guess that is the way of the world, but it does seem a shame that dealers have taken a hold on an event that is designed to promote independent record shops and get music fans out to the shops by offering some special releases, not for a third party to make even more money. Never mind, I'll get over it!Charlie Jefferson said:Hi Marvin,Marvindodgers said:I see that you managed to get the John Grant release. I tried and failed this morning. Thanks, I am enjoying it. I hope that doesn't sound like I'm rubbing it in. I was early in the queue for The Flaming Lips & J Spaceman, so was pleased John Grant's EP was there too.
Excellent stuff.
Another discographical minefield, Charlie. It wasn't on the 1st USA pressing or many others from what I can gather but it is on mine which is an original French release. I'd never seen an original so I just put it in my pile but noticed the French text on the rear sleeve. It really is a remarkable record; heavy as a dinner plate, crackly and battered but already a firm favourite. God, that voice and the sax solos, piano and backing singers are just too much. So, if you want one with 'I believe To My Soul' on it, you gotta find a French copy! As you say, great song, great performance. Looks like Ray Charles early Atlantic records will be my new obsession.Charlie Jefferson said:Blimey, that's a great way to start a Sunday/any day. Was it originally on the What'd I Say LP, then?

Have you ever seen a vinyl copy JIm?
'Court And Spark' is such a beautiful record. Along with 'Hejira' her best as far as I'm concerned although anything she does has merit and is worth a listen. Oh and 'Hissing Of Summer Lawns' is great too.Marvindodgers said:Despite my moaning in my previous post, I am enjoying the Bruce Springsteen EP that I did get at Record Store Day yesterday.
