What TV size? Viewing distance...

Hi

I'm looking at getting a new TV in 2011 and don't know whether to get 42" or 46"

Viewing distance is about 8.5 ft

I will be using it for Freeview HD (A mixture of HD and SD channels) and also the occasional DVD, Blu-Ray and game on GT5 on the PS3.

I can't seem to locate a comprehensive guide anywhere on the net so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

As the actress said to the Bishop, the bigger the better. I'm only about 7' from our 50" 5090. Can be a bit close for some SD channels but we tend to mainly watch HD or upscaled SD alongside DVD and Blu Ray.

I came across this with a quick google search, but there is a known fact that a large proportion of people Who buy TV's when asked after the event, what they would change about their new TV, answer they should have bought a bigger one.

So if i where you, I would go for the 46" or you will always wish you did IMO.

Quite agree. I wish I had so I'm now looking at a new purchase that I could have avoided by getting the right one 18 months ago

Interesting - I went onto the Sony chat thingy, via this forum and asked the same question. My seating position is around 10' and Andrew said he views a 50" TV from about 3.5 meters.
