Hi i am looking forward to buying my first set of new speakers, and i am in a dilemma between choosing Mission qx5 mk2 or Bowers& Wilkins 603 S2. I can find a place local which has qx5 mk2. I am looking for speakers which have low end bass, but not booming so i can have no subwoofer in a relatively small room 23sq. m or
247 sq ft. My speakers were Mission M34, the had very good low end and some form of mid end and okay high's.
This is shocking, I'm addicted to this site, I should be working today!
I see auditioning the speakers not possible for you, the next best thing is to have some understanding, the type of sound you're seeking, is it warm, is it neutral, is it detailed or a bit of everything?
Speaking to someone from experienced dealership is a good place to start, mapping out your room size and positioning of your speakers, may result in a positive outcome but also bear in mind dealerships exist to sell you their stuff but this is better than dipping into the lottery and hoping you get lucky.
I am painting worse case scenario as per above but it's always better to veer towards caution, rather leaving things to chance.
I am being a little disingenuous because I shop mainly on the bases of good reviews. If there's a product that's caught my eye, I would extract as much possible the reviews from the internet and take a view on the product. Sometimes a pattern emerges, ah these speakers have a tendency to sound bright, will it work with my amp which is already bright? Also consider, if these speakers are suited to where they're eventually be positioned or is the room size suited to your speaker size. Small volume room with big speakers will easily feel the room with sound and may sound boomy.
So many layers and no exact science!
Better still, find a supplier that allows you to return the speakers after testing, if you should decide these are not for you.
