Im connecting Sky HD to My Yamaha 667 so will require an optical cable, I dont want to spend a lot, some will probably say I dont need too,,, ,,, so basically I just a good quality optcal cable that is reasonably cheap, Ive seen the QED Profile Precision for 16.20 for 1m on ebay. But if someone could point me in the direction of a cheaper alternative that is good quality I would be much obliged. Cheers!

thanks for the reply, when i connect the cable, do i then have to change the settings on the sky box? Ive read that you change somethig to DD in the sound setting,, its already set on Dolby D, is that what they mean?

Cookie Monster:
Hi Pink Moon,

Does you're Sky box have Coaxial like the latest models?

May get a slightly better sound.

Coaxial gets my vote, if you have it o your box

Hi all, It does have coaxial as I used to have it connected to my Denon DM38. But I was under the impression that you need optical to output in 5.1?

Nope, both optical and coaxial will do the 5.1 trick from the Sky box to your receiver, just depends on your preference.

As mentioned, mine is coaxial having tried both, not much between them but coaxial seems to have better "roundness", whatever that means!!

PINK MOON:Interesting,, can any one suggest a decent coaxial cable for under £30?

Check the WHFbest buys and then check Hi Fi Cables for pricing, make sure it is long enough, some coax cables start at 0.8m lengths

No. A digital coaxial cable. Though personally i'd stick with optical if you already have one. There is no audible difference between optical and digital coaxial cables ime.

If your going to use optical then any cable will do, if using coaxal something like the Chord Codac Silver Plus Digital cable should do the job.
