Every issue in our Sound Advice section (p98-106 in current mag), we feature five new test discs we've used for the reviews in that issue - that can (and usually does) encompass CD, SACD/DVD-A, vinyl, DVD, HD DVD and Blu-ray content, spread across a wide range of genres, from compressed pop to dynamic classical; stonking war film to sweeping drama.
So, for example, in that current issue, you've got everything from The Chemical Brothers to Crowded House; Gershwin & Ravel piano concertos to The White Stripes; Flags of our Fathers to Curse of the Golden Flower to a Primal Scream concert DVD.
In addition to those new discs every month (5 stereo, 10 multichannel - music and movie) , we also use tried and tested tracks we know can stretch particular systems. I wouldn't describe them as favourites, as such (another benefit of team-testing rather than individual taste), just music and movie moments - again, from a wide range of genres - we know can help tell the difference between a good product and a great one.
