TBH not much. The original 706s were called Focal-JMlab Chorus up until the late noughties. Subsequent designs throughout their ranges dropped the JMlab name (Jacques Mahul designed Focal's drive units), refined the speakers and called them 'V'. I believe the grilles are a 'v' shape, but in terms of technology little has changed.

I've heard the Focal-JMlab Chorus 714 and the newer 'V's and both are impressive with the right amplifier.

I'm not aware of a 'V' MKII version. Since Focal merged with Naim Audio they've developed the Aria range -- couldn't say whether it's a direct replacement for the 'Vs' or not.

I was going to facetiously say...... age. The 706v have been around since 2011 but I, also, am not aware of a V2 model.

The 706 first appeared in WHFI mag in Jan 2004. IIRC the 'V' version has been around since 2007. I could be wrong though.

There's one reviewed in 2007 (V version). I now remember because it was around the time I was looking at the RS6s and couldn't find a review of the 714V anywhere. So I asked whether WHFI had any in the pipeline.

You could be right. The first review I read was in 2008 but this was in an American publication and they might have been a bit behind the times.

It was 2006 at my local (ish) Focal dealer 'Infidelity'. The 714V was retailing at about £800 whilst at SSAV they were doing a summer promotion on all new speakers (25% off normal retail price of £600), so being an old skinflint I plumped for the RS6s.

Not sure there's a 706V2: the current 700 series replaced the 700V models around 2013, as I seem to remember reading in a review: I think the magazine (can't remember which one) had a 705V or 706V review in the works when the French company suddenly sprang a new model on them out of le bleu, causing a bit of a flap.

They're the old model, predating the current 700 series. The sculptured rear panel with its 'V' motif is the giveaway.

Marginally off-topic, but if anyone is interested in Focal 714 speakers, they are on a flash sale till midnight, at 50% reduction. I know they are being sold in France, but someone may be tempted.
