I have just read that PMC recommend high quality thick multi-strand Oxygen Free Copper cable for the DB1i speakers and would like some recommendations on different makes, i have looked at the van damme blue series cable and this seems a good option, are there any better options or are the van damme cables good enough?

also i would like some options for interconnects for my rega gear that would go well with high quality thick multi-strand Oxygen Free Copper cable.

thanks in advance

I currently have chord odyssey 2 install cable, but when i went from floorstanders to standmounts i forgot to add an extra meter for the height of the speaker so my current cable is to short. After a bit of investigation i noticed that PMC actually recommend high quality thick multi-strand Oxygen Free Copper cable so im now after 2 x 3m lengths preferably terminated.

I use 4mm Van Damme Bi Wire (4x4mm Tour Grade Black series), I believe they do a 2x4 and 2x6mm and a Blue Series which they call Studio Grade. Gives excellent performance especially considering the cost. Good thick cable but very flexible.

Think I got it from Clearly AV - http://www.clearly-av.co.uk/searchresults/Speaker-Cable/Floor-Standing-Speaker-Cable/All/all/all/all/VanDamme/display_price/ASC/0.html

Other retailers are available

Id recommend the Van Damme UP LC-OFC grade (Which is used in Abbey studios and at least one speaker manufacturers internal wiring)

cheers guys that seems to be what im after, any idea what size to go for 2.5 or 4.0 or 6.0mm

I used to own some PMC TB2+s and I called up PMC to find out what speaker cables they recommend and when I spoke to them they went further than simply to say a thick multi-stranded copper cable, the bloke I spoke to actually said that they use Van Damme when they do their product development and studio installations.

So off the back of that I bought some Van Damme LC-OFC Hi-Fi speaker cable (6mm) and found that it worked great (and noticeably better than the QED silver anniversary I was using previously. No doubt the Van Damme is a very good solidly engineered great value for money cable.

However, eventually curiosity (or upgradeitis, call it what you will) got the better of me and I borrowed some Atlas Hyper 2.0 from my local dealer, and found that gave a subtle but distinct improvement.

So I would recommend Van Damme for being very good and excellent VFM, but ultimately it is possible to do better - although as ever, it's all system and taste dependent.

Would the Van Damme 2.5mm up lcofc cable be good enough for 2x7 metre runs from amp to speakers or would i need 4mm

Ha, the usual Damme suspects here, including me!

Another vote for Van Damme Blue. I just upgraded from QED SA XT to VD Blue 6mm; the sound is a lot smooth and weighty bass, in a forward setup like mine.

tosh:Would the Van Damme 2.5mm up lcofc cable be good enough for 2x7 metre runs from amp to speakers or would i need 4mm

2.5mm would be fine. Generally speaking though, bass is enhanced (technically I should say, bass isnt lost as much) using thicker cable (Bear in mind youll need to terminate yourself though)

Personally I have 4mm, and its heavyweight on my system. Also bought from 'clearly av' (Posted above). Great service

Suicide would seem a somewhat extreme requirement in order to get the best from this cable...

My girlfriend gave me a funny look when I wrote something similar a while back ~

'......youll need to terminate yourself........."

Another vote for 'jean claude'. 6mm blue series is the stuff my dad's got and it's a great, thick and well built cable that could withstand a car running over it. Will be getting some myself in the near future.

If i had known that i would have bought some ages ago.

The amount of cables i have had to throw away due to cars running over them is unbelievable.

well as good as they probably are i have decided to just get longer runs of chord odyssey, my hi-fi dealer did me a favour and i swapped an unwanted interconnect and got 2x3 meter runs terminated with chord plugs for only £30 new. I just love the oydessy cable and could'nt bear being without one.

thanks to you all for your coments.

Lol, could see someone being petty enough to say that that when i typed it, so thankyou. Anyway, at the price you can get the cable for they are pretty unbeatable and i've tried quite a few more expensive ones.

your not wrong, they are brilliant, even better now i have them round the right way DOH!

I did'nt notice the direction arrows on the chord plugs and have had one round the wrong way since i bought them
