...and another film thread begins as these seem quite popular, and a comment by ProfHat about "Pretty Woman" mgot me wondering...

So what films did you really not want to see (perhaps dragged along to by a partner for instance) and you found yourself being entertained or even really liking them?

Mine are :

Ed Wood - not a Tim Burton fan and the subject matter did nay really interest me but found it quite captivating and rather amusing.

Bridget Jones' Diary - "Chick FLicks" are not my thang and even some of the girls I know said it didn't compare well to the book, I also loathe Hugh Grant but I found this film funny. Especially that orange bloke who sold the jewels on tv. And I now think if anybody wants an actor to play a slimy English ******* then Hugh Grant is your man! Not seen the sequel.

Moulin Rouge - I found myself lyric spotting

Love Actually - Well just the Bill Nighy sub plot.

For me it was 'The Pursuit of Happiness'

Now I must admit I am a huge Will Smith fan but was a bit unsure of this one. However, after watching it 'cause nothing else was on the other day it nearly brought a tear to my eye at the end and I can see why Will Smith was nominated for an Oscar!

JohnDuncan:Oh fr0g..............

Ok.Time for a cleansing I think...
In the same vein

About a boy
Sliding doors
Serendipity
Sweet November

All really girly films... and you know what, I loved em 😉

Right, I'm off to listen to some Slayer!

*edit the saddest thing is that Serendipity and Sweet November I watched WITHOUT my missus being there! (nothing else on, thought bollox, why not?)

JohnDuncan:Yeah but Sleepless In Seattle?!?!?!?
Yep. I think I even had to hide some tears of joy from SWMBO for fear of ridicule... ho hum

i liked about a boy. but the book is better.

4 weddings. notting hill. im a soppy ol' sod. scenes of a sexual nature - but i must admit i wanted to see that. Theres something of a trade decriptions problem tho methinks,. there was'nt nearly enough of them.

I've actually liked most of those kinda Brit flicks. What a soft bunch we are.

I really liked 'About a boy' and the soundtrack CD was pretty good too. Notting Hill was alright, and Love Actually is always good for a watch at Crimbo. In fact, it's also good for letting me know when not to annoy the gaffer, as if I hear it in the background I can tell she's a wee bit hormonal, and it's time to fetch her a hot water bottle and a bar of chocolate and agree with everything she says

Some other films that exceeded my exectations would be: Bad Boys, The Pursuit of Happyness, Empire Records, Casino Royale, Magnolia, Eternal Sunshine.., and all sort of other rubbish

Notice a common theme here.....Hugh Grant! But what an idiot for making out with Devine Brown when he was still with Liz H.

Oh I dunno. Liz H could drive anyone to distraction. A great example of someone who has let fame get to their head.

The first "Pirates Of The Caribbean". It was a very hot Saturday afternoon and an air conditioned cinema and a large ice cream were the main attraction. Found the film far more entertaining than expected - shame about the next two.

"Kill Bill Vol 2". Didn't like the first one very much but thought that the second one was much more entertaining.

tvmog:The first "Pirates Of The Caribbean".
That's mine too. Reluctantly went in thinking it was going to be a kids film and was very pleasently surprised at how good it was (Johnny of course making the film). Haven't seen the second two yet, but will probably get them all on Blu-Ray when I see a good deal.

It'll have to be a bloody good deal. The 2nd film is passable, but the 3rd is completely rubbish and nonsensical.

Slightly embarrased to say me too on the Moulin Rouge front.....

In addition I seem to find myself remarkably able to watch all soppy romantice comedies (I can't go as far as to say I actually liked them - except (just like fr0g I actually enjoyed sleepless in seattle! )

OMG - am I actually a girl trapped in a mans body?

Spirited Away & Princess Mononoke.

Not really a fan of Japanese animation, but a mate loaned me them and thought I'd give 'em a go. I enjoyed them, but still don't really know why.

Hasn't inspired me to try any other Miyazaki films though.

Personally knew Moulin Rouge could be very good as Baz Luhrmann very rarely dissapoints with Romeo and Juliet being ok but Strictly Ballroom is a fantastic Movie!

My suprise was SHREK. It was a wet Sunday and Kids were bored silly so of We all went to see SHREK. I knew nothing about it before going and loved it from begining to end. Shame about 2+3. Fav bit is with the Ginger Bread Man being tourtred,"Do You Know The Muffin Man?" super casting with John Lithgow as Lord Rarquaad and the vocal talents of Myres and Murphy worked sublimly.

Who say Animation is just for Kids???

Love Actually and Notting Hill are top movies and I put them on at Christmas as a double bill for the lads at work (in the cells.. literally a captive audience)

Was in America and didn't fancy Sharks Tale so ended up (no other form of escape) watching Team America. Never laughed so much in a cinema.
