hi, i am planning to put my kdl w4000 on the wall above the fireplace and want to channel out the brickwork into the alcove and run the cables into a cabinet.

i have skyplus but will upgrade to skyhd plus so need a hdmi cable for that.

also have a bose lifestyle 48 so need a component cable for that.

would like a PS3, another hdmi?

appletv, another hdmi?

am i going to have 3 hdmi cables at 4m long? i want to do this right and only once as it is a nightmare.

i have found 5m 1.3 hdmi cables for 50 pounds:

http://www.tvcables.co.uk/cgi-bin/tvcables/techlink-5m-hdmi-680205.html?id=6fwNxhCI

this may be of interest to someone else too, any opinions?

sorry that i need loads of help but it is apreciated.

lisa filly.

cheek,

the bose cost 4 grand so it wil be staying. thanks for the link tho. i was planning on running all the cables in a bundle out of a home made plastic socket cover with a hole drilled in it.

I put just an HDMI cable in my wall (and speaker cables to the satellites) as I knew I would always run an AV system with HDMI switching, and Sky running thought the AV system. I guess you should / could also put a set of RGBs as well and / or a scart cable just in case. A friend did the same - but did install the scart cable. I was installing into a masonry wall so the less channelling the better.

thanks,

so, can anyone recommend a HDMI switcher?

if i use a switcher how will this effect changing channel? does the tv switch channel instantly or is there a delay?

how do i switch from one source to another, i dont want anymore remotes?

does hdmi switch the tv over when the source is turned on as scart does?

i would imagine the most regular use would be for the skyhd and then the appletv so this would mean i dont need to use the tv remote to often.

thanks again, lisa

You sure the tv above fireplace isn't too high? Should really be at eye level.

Got some hdmi's from these guys, well built and the picture is fab.

you are right having the tv above the fireplace isnt ideal but its a victorian house so it doesnt leave a lot of options.

i might post some pics when its done. i am even building my own cabinet. the idea is to have music all thru the house, very discrete (i understand you might not all approve of the bose), simple to use with good quality movies in the front room.

i think i am going for the 3 hdmi route. more actually as i have to do the same job for a plasma on the chimney breast above.

thanks for the help, not just on this thread but i have spent hours reading all the threads and learnt loads.

there might be some questions in the future about hd movie storage and apple networks.
