Advice needed please at present i have a denon avca1d amp and a sony bdp360 bluray player the denon does not have hdmi so i need to get hd sound from a bdp player via analogues i have seen the sony760 for £260 from amazon and a denon bdp3800 which is suppose to have very good sound by using the internal hd decoder second hand with 14months warranty remaining for about £500 so my question is for picture and sound quality would i be better off paying double the price for the denod over the sony or any other alternative players also how much better picture will i get over my current player? thanks garry

Hi, I have just only yesterday gone for the Sony BDP-760 from amazon and I can give a run down when I get it delivered.

I think from opinions etc. it's a cracking blu ray player and hope to be impressed.

You can get the pana bd-80 for about £160 maybe del on top but even so, for that price i would go for that over the sony 760 but if you don't mind spending the cash tehn get the latter.

It all depends on how much your willing to spend. If you want to spend top end, then i would opt for the Pioneer but if you fancied saving some money and having a machine that offers allot for it's value and performance, then as suggested the Panasonic DMP-BD80 is a great buy, it has internal HD audio decoding, analogue output, great picture / sound and also the added benefit of Viera Cast (built in YouTube, etc), you cant go wrong.

I spent ages trying to decide what BDP to go for, as I have an Arcam AVR250 with no HDMI. I spent some time looking at the Pioneer BDP 51FD vs. the Sony BDP S760 and a lot of forum time discussing which to go for, plus some major diversions in to looking at the LX71... When all was said and done I went for the Sony because of its picture quality vs. the Pioneer (I thought it shaded it), the convenience of the load times and WiFi (especially for firmware upgrades). I haven't regretted it. I have had to buy 4 pairs of Chord Crimsons to connect it to my Amp, all from eBay, but still another £100+ to add to the cost.

If I was doing it now, I'd be looking at an S770, probably, not sure if the LX71 would get a look in (but it would go with my Kuro TV!). If I was looking for a really good "stop gap" player until I upgraded my amp, I'd go for the Panasonic DMP-BD80 and save the £200 for the amp upgrade...

Thanks for the advice all should maybe keep the 360 for now and upgrade the amp instead thinking along the lines of the yamaha z7 or have seen a onkyo 906 for £800 any thoughts on these would be much appreciated thanks again Garry
