The Beeb has a great many flaws, but trying to stop people illegally accessing its content seems fair enough to me (Amazon/Apple/Disney etc do the same, I strongly suspect.) - if that comes down to ambiguous wording I don't think that's the greatest of sins.

They could easily stop people accessing iPlayer by linking it to a valid TV licence, but instead they choose to confuse and scare people into thinking they need one even if they don't.

That's what I take issue with.

Big deal, S4C 🤪
No good to me (and a majority of others).

They reckon 3000 people are licenced for black and white only.

I'd be surprised if they're legit.

TVL make it difficult to to buy a B&W licence these days.

You have to phone them and pay buy card or set up a DD, or you can send them a cheque in the post (who even has a cheque book anymore) I believe. You can't do it online.

(I've got a 405 line telly in the loft....but I think they stopped transmitting to it in the 1980s).

405 line ceased in January '85

Just started streaming the Beeb's Kingdom in 4k - more than any film I can readily think of, it makes me want a much bigger screen - not sure how that would work, but there you go!
I've still got my pannie plasma and I started watching it last night too. The Beeb might come in for some stick with the licence fee but they really excel with programmes like these, plus science programmes and documentaries.

Some of the panoramic shots with the sunset looing just looked awesome - and a bigger screen would feel even more like being there. I wouldn't complain if they turned the music down a few notches, but you can't have everything!

Some movies you want to be immersed in it, makes sense to have a much wider screen. If 8K ever becomes mainstream, I can see TV screens covering the entire wall, a large room with sufficient distance from the screen becomes a necessity or maybe knock down a few walls 🙂
