Saw It Might Get Loud. Mayeb not quite entertaining enough to non player, and i could do without Jack White's pretentions. Also, the version of The weight at the end was God-awful. As a non muso i thought "he just realised he's in teh wrong key. phew. the final version will be better now and they wont have to sing so...badly". Wow. How wrong was I?!

The Greatest. Dodgy accents, especially Brosanan's - all over the place. Otherwise, half decent TV movie of the week.

Always catch Later... but seldom like anything much. Liked Oh Mississippi by Lissie though. However, there was nothing else i liked on her myspace.

Saw Iron Man 2. Bit much going on, and the promised investigation of his drink problem was actually an excuse for a couple of set pieces. Silly, that. But it had good aspects, such as Stark and his relationship with Pepper, Mickey Rourke chewing the scenery up (he should have been given more time), Johanson.

Please calm down with the flashing images though, Hollywood types. Not only is it really irritating, but it does the opposite of what you think it does; it makes me think theres less going on, and usually im right. you know, in terms of substance and not CGI...

Found Kickass pretty amusing.

Discovered and liked Ariel by Diane Birch, and, a while ago now, Soulshine by Beth Hart.

Didnt quite know what to make of Up In The Air. It had things to say, but it didnt say them deeply or strongly enough. Maybe that was the point - you're supposed to ponder it after the fact. Still, i didnt hate it, and have some thoughts on it and memory of it, unlike most films. Maybe its my short attenti

Not sure i like that The Hurt Locker beat Avatar out at the Oscars. Avatar is undoubtedly insulting pap, but i think THL might be thrill-ride exploitation, which is worse. Not sure though...

Oh, and Paranormal Activity. During which i could easily have got 40 winks.

quite liked harry brown. but wish mr caine would shut up about batman movie. he simply sounds a bit, er, senior with all the missinformation. luckily he hs been told to shut up tho, i believe. saw the original alfie. hated the first half, at least. didnt like the rest much better. his delivery just grated so much.

Kept falling aslepp during last half hour of The Box. Thought they may tie it up with some explanation that harked back to the Arthur C Clarke quote shown earlier. AFAIK/U, it did not.

Men Who Stare at Goats. Funny premise, the odd laugh.

See, Kermode, Norman and Bradshaw have nothing on me.

Did you not think he fought a little too well for a drunk? With out saying anything else, for those who haven't seen the film, that and another point made me think he wasn't as drunk as he made out.

No country for old men, really good film with some superb acting. Well worth a purchase on Bluray as the PQ is excellent.

Falling down, watched the film when it was first released and quite enjoyed it but it wasn't as good as I remembered.

The big lebowski, this has been on my to watch list for a loooong time. Good film and really funny, Walter the ex Nam vet cracks me up.

Going Postal:

I was worried about this, Sky's previous Pratchett adaptations can be summed up thus; Hogfather, looked great, woeful script, plodding direction; Colour of Magic, really poor casting (sorry David Jason just isn't Rincewind), didn't bother watching it after about 30 minutes.

So, expectations were not high, especially as this is one of my favourite of the recent novels. First things first, Vadim Jean has wisely given up the directorial and scripting reins and concentrated on Exec Producing, which boded well. As ever the show looked great, this isn't one of the disc-trotting stories, so there was only a handful of sets and they looked great, the interior of the Post Office was especially well done I thought, just as I'd pictured it in the book.

Richard Coyle made a very good Moist von Lipwig, the "hero" of the story, one of the better pieces of casting across the three adaptations, enthusiastically played without ever falling into the trap of trying to be funny, which is where a lot of the cast in the first two adaptations came unstuck, Andrew Sachs slightly overdid the befuddled old postman Groat but Stanley (played by the unfortunately named Ian Bonar) was convincingly geeky. I was less enthused about some of the other casting, John Suchet just wasn't creepy enough as Reacher Gilt, I didn't understand the casting of Steve (League of Gentlemen) Pemberton as Drumknott at all, just not how I envisioned the character. Adrian Schiller's banshee, Mr Gryle was possibly the weakest performance of the lot, which is a shame, he's usually good value but it just didn't work for me at all. I'm in two minds about Charles Dance's Vetinari to be honest, he had the understated threat level pitched just about right, although occasionally I thought he strayed into phoning it in territory and to be honest, Vetinari should be a little more charming. One thing he should certainly not be however, is ginger. I mean really, this is the most dangerous man on the Disc, ginger? No.

One of the biggest problems with Hogfather is that it managed to leave out huge chunks of the book and yet still felt like it was being dragged through treacle. Going Postal similarly left out large parts of the story, however in this case it's for the better, as the story nipped along at a reasonable rate. Adverts included there was 4 hours up on the screen but it never felt like things were dragging, which vindicates the decision of Vadim Jean to hand the reins to someone else, thankfully.

Overall a great improvement on the first two, 7/10. I'll be looking forward to the next one, which might well be Making Money, which also features Moist von Lipwig, however I'd quite like to see Masquerade attempted, although that would mean casting the Witches, which could be a bit controversial...
