Hi DIB,

This album and The Crane Wife are the only two albums I own by them, have you investigated any further?

My wife loves Colin Meloy's voice and bought a couple of his solo albums on the strength of it. Both really good: Colin Meloy Sings Live (or something like that), and a wonderful online-only covers EP of Morrissey songs.

The King Is Dead (nice Smiths allusion there) CD also came with a mini-doc about the making of the album. There's some interesting snippets of them talking and playing in the studio, plus Peter Buck turns up and sprinkles some of his signature sound on a few songs.

You could also try The Hazards of Love. Another excellent album.

I prefer these to the Fleet Foxes, who are good in their own right, but I find The Decemberists that bit more interesting.

Outstanding!

Indeed! I've been listening to this over the last few weeks on Spotify.

A little birdy tells me that Santa may have this in his sack for me.

If he has a "Dust Bowl" to spare, send him in my direction 🙂

I've already got Dust Bowl on vinyl, excellent album.

Anyways, whilst doing a bit of Xmas shopping in town this morning, I just managed to engineer the route to go past Fopp Records.

Cheaper on the net I know, but BH & JB's "Don't Explain" was just sat there waiting to be bought, so I did and am happily listening to it now.

I think it's my favourite album of the year.

As someone with an eclectic taste that goes back a few years, do you have any useful insights regarding this thread that I started: http://www.whathifi.com/forum/this-week-i-have-mostly-been-listening-towatching/which-version

I'm not sure it even has an answer.

Getting to be a bit of a Sunday morning ritual now..

Radio Paradise playing in the background, me having my toast, a cuppa and a read whilst contemplating walking the dog in the snow later.

RP my favourite record station ever, without exception.

On the back of hearing them on Radio Paradise a few times, and going into Fopp Records at the weekend, I bought this CD..

Totally different to anything else in my collection, this is pretty hypnotic music.

I know its good as my wife just came in and said "Good grief, what's this rubbish?"

Nice choice LA.

Ever heard anything by Matt Schofield? I think you'll like him.

Try his latest..

I've seen him live a couple of times now, fabulous. Doesn't have a bass player (normally), just guitar, hammond organ and drums. Makes the guitar sing.
