Awesome album! Excellent choice. Just fantastic.

What kind of music is it, Jan?

It's rock music, but if you would be more precise one could categorise it as 'Math-rock' (basically rock music with complex timings like 7/8 and 11/8. It (can) also make use of alot of dissonants. It's also somewhat post-rock'ish, in the vein of bands like Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky and Don Cabbalero. It's very different and refreshing to listen to. Not to mention that it also sounds very good on a more upscale system. If you like I could send an MP3 your way.

I'm fairly new to the forum's, would it be rude to ask where you two gents are from? (Thaiman if you are from Thailand - whereabouts?)...

Thaiman is British for as far as I know, I'm Dutch. Where are you from?

Rude? NOt at all, where'd you gather that thought from? Did I say something wrong?

Ignore that last one then! Manchester, oop north, UK. You've mentioned a few bands above that I'm particularly keen on, would you care to mention any others? It's fairly hard to come across some of the less well known post-rockers, so i would love to hear your favourites (or any genre for that matter)

If it's math-rock/post rock you want to explore, then I highly recommend 65daysofstatic, Rodan (very similar to Slint) June Of 44, Shellac, Chavez and Drive Like Jehu. Some post rock: Godspeed You! Black Emperor, The Evpatoria Report (amazing Swiss post rock, not well known but certainly worth a listen) Sigur Ros (very well know, but still very good), Do Make Say Think, Pelican, Mono.

other favourites include: Pavement (Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain is simply amazing), Built To Spill, Sonic Youth (Daydream Nation is mandatory listening), Dinosaur Jr. and a million others. I could go on forever and ever, but these are pretty much essentials if you ask me.

Cheers Jan! I'm quite a long way down the line with post-rock and have got albums by most of those but math-rock is a new one to me so I'll be taking a closer look at Rodan, June of 44, Shellec, Chavez and Drive Like Jehu... and The Evpatoria Report, all of which I've never heard of. Many thanks!

OMG - now you are talking, I love those bands and have seen a lot of them live (Slint twice) - Don Cab define for me what math rock is all about and have the one of the best drummers around (Damon Che)
Spiderland is an underground classic, Good Morning Captain takes me to te cleaners - cracking stuff. Dave Pajo is a superb guitarist, his solo cds and work with Tortoise well worth investigation (he even played for the Smashing Pumpkins at one point)

I mentioned The Evpatoria Report in work after you mentioned these Jan, and off a friend of a colleague I'm not in possession of 'Golevka'. Listening to it now, it's absolutely STUNNING!

Thanks very much.

Glad to hear you like it mate, it's phenomenal. Enjoy it, it's a real treat. I don't know if you're into buying cd's but the art work is equally impressive as the music on the cd.

Got the CD here but it will have to go back

I've tried Amazon/Ebay etc to try and find a copy but no luck. Might try in Manchester tomorrow, maybe Fat City Records... although does seem really rare.
