To anyone on the team, is there a reason why the rotel rsp 1570 processor has not yet been reviewed? it's been out for 10 months or so now, and you've reviewed the 15 series receivers. Thinking of upgrading from my rsp 1066 and would like to read your review before purchase to see if it's much better.

No obvious reason beyond the vast amount of equipment we have to shoehorn into every issue, which leads us to go for the items in a range with the widest appeal.

Are processors going out of fashion then? i thought it was THE only way to get hi end hi-fi and cinema without two separate systems. Are there any processor reviews due anytime soon? Been more than happy with my rotel combo for last 6 years and was wondering is it worth the upgrade for hd sound decoding rather than using the multi inputs.

Unfortunately, the trend for most people these days with multi-channel power amplifiers is to use an A/V Receiver as a pre-amp/surround sound processor. Hence, dedicated surround sound processors don't seem to sell in particularly large numbers.

I personally would like to see more surround sound processors reviewed here. I, too, have been waiting for a review of the RSP-1570 by What Hi Fi, and I would also like to see some sort of mega-test between newcomers such as the NAD M15HD and Arcam AV888.

Dan.

I'm sure we will look at these processors at some point, probably in combination with the same manufacturers' power amps, but ATM they're not a priority.

A review of the above would be useful before parting with a lot of hard earned! i don't know of any av retailers who would audition all the above processors, and i live in london! how do we find out if they are worth the upgrade? this is the main reason i've subscribed to what hi-fi for years. Might as well just get it when they review them instead of endless tv's.

I agree; it would be good to have reviews of Surround Sound Processors and dedicated Power Amplifiers, as well, instead of so many TV sets.

We're not saying we won't review such products, and indeed our Ultimate Guides series does do so more often, just that a group test of processors in isolation is unlikely - we're more likely to do processor/power amp combinations.

I'll make sure the review team is aware of this perceived gap in our coverage...

Thanks Andrew.

I would definitely love to see reviews of surround sound processors with their matching power amplifiers - especially from NAD, Rotel and Arcam.

Dan.

yeah cheers, me too. Hopefully not have to wait too long, I bought my gear after one of your ' supertest's' between tag, cyrus, marantz, rotel, arcam, processor/power amp combo's. It was a great piece and i discovered i could get "home cinema thrills beyond all but the best one box recivers, and superb music playback too", And i've been more than pleased with it ever since. I'm sure readers would like this kind of stuff and see there's maybe other options than having maybe two systems for good hi-fi/cinema.

Dan I agree. For sure it's a niche product but we're always being told that separates are better. Let WH prove! Also, is it me, or are the listings at the back of the mag woefully out of date and incomplete? 1 example is the listing od Apple TV twice under different headings, one good review and one poor - which is it? I've deleted the review of the old 40GB model (Sept 2007) which has now been superseded by the newer 160GB version we tested in April this year. Given its larger hard drive and the plentiful amount of content now available on iTunes, we put it up to 5 stars.
