When I log-in, I'm still presented with a 'you will be directed' dialog box, this does nothing, closing the box does nothing either refreshing etc. eventually brings the site up - I've got the fastest internet speed available in the UK on a SOA PC & the site takes an age to load, if I visited this site for the first time I would be extremely unlikely ever to return - I understand things take time to be fixed but it's been like this since the site went live & it's still the same, it seems the site is hosted in Lincolnshire? Sites from Oz load far faster than this does, it is the slowest site in my 1400 bookmarks - If this site hasn’t been done in house you ought to be asking for a refund, ‘Which’ & ‘Watchdog’ might be able to help? *smile*

I agree with this, although my suspicion is the redesign is fundamentally incompatible with the software Mac uses and there is no simple fix.

Don't go Ben, you're one of the best members for sure. The website is pants though. *yes3*

Very kind, thanks gel. It's not by choice though, I just don't use my laptop very much to go online any more and the site is so impossible to use on my phone that it isn't worth the hassle. If they fix it (like the new design was meant to be) then I'm around, otherwise I imagine I'll be almost exclusively on the film club thread.

Yes I wonder at which point during its 12 month development period did someone check if the new site would be compatible with screen readers? Even as a partially-sighted person myself, shamefully it's not something I would have immediately thought about had I been making my own website, but for a team of professional website developers, it should have been high on the list of things to check.

No thanks needed Mac. You're more than very welcome.

BenLaw, yours (and other) comments about Forum posting have been passed back to our dev team and they are investigating. I can't give you an exact indication when the problem will be fixed, but we are looking into it.

Surely it can't be difficult to revert the old way when it was simple to cut and paste links?

Appreciate you trying to help Cno, but as I've Emailed Andy, my screen reader cannot even read the buttons!

I've even tried using a different piece of software, but still no good.

It's so frustrating!

Mac

Mac, can you tell me which screen reader you are using please?

To be honest I feel sorry for Andy, dealing with all this **** isn't his day job, he's a magazine editor. It's just unfortunate that he's at the shop-front end of the business and there's no-one else to whine to. The people who really need their heads banging together are the website developers.

No-one need feel sorry for anybody. With position comes responsibility. Whoever signed this off should resign or be sacked.

The damage to WHF credibility and reputation must be rather large. A publication about technology that can't get their technological 'shop-window' any where near to a useful level. Nobody can expect everything with a new website to go perfectly, straight from the gun, but this carbuncle should never have been given an airing when it was so compromised.

It's one called JAWS Andy.

Although this is definitely lower priority than Macspur's issue - Is it possible to change the font to BLACK on WHITE. My eyesight is struggling with the dark grey on pale grey as the contrast is too low for me to read it easily. As you can see - making the font bold makes a huge difference but I can't do this to the entire site.

This is one of the few sites giving me this problem.

Thank you

It has been mentioned but I have seen no desire to change font. On my pc the font is awful. Better on tablet & phone. The colours though - sorry but they are WRONG. Basic design dictates colour is used for emphasis where this site does the opposite. Pale text on a white background for emphatic text? Schoolboy errors.

Layout needs tweaking and button sensitivity / reactivity is annoying and page loading times very frustrating.

Someone please tell us which aspects really ARE being considered for change else we will all keep moaning and probably give up. I seem to spend time more with site issues than any content right now.

Pity those actually responsible for site design showed his face to defend his decisions. I wont hold my breath.

It would appear that What Hifi has been relegated from the premier division and that the likes of Stuff are now considered to be priority. Shocking if this website is considered acceptable for the masses who made it what it was. Oh well thats progress in this day and age. Anyroad I have purchased some great headphones from Sennheiser the HD 598 which may represent what a pimp would have bought in the 70s but don't be put of by the retro style. They are as Mr Kipling would exclaim "exceedingly good", especially below £130

When I load a new thread, that has at least one reply, the page loads to the second post. Is that something that is being worked on, by any chance???????

I find the new site almost unusable on my iPhone now, I think it's the font that makes it hard to read and the page does not display well on the screen. I used to check the forums daily on my phone, now I only do so once or twice a week on my laptop. I think it needs a new skin and a new font, keep it simple though, less is more sometimes.

What is it specifically about the iPhone that makes the site unusable? The fonts actually seem to appear much clearer on phone and tablet devices than on a PC browser, where the font rendering in most browsers seems to be very poor ... not sure why that is. My main issues are the shuffling about of the home page during loading and poor use of the available screen space. I compared WHF to sites like Stereophile, Engadget etc. and they seem to be much better ... sorry WHF.

My login does the same but I eventually get in. I’m not one to post up negative comments on the whole but the implementation does seem to have taken the site on a bit of a step backward IMO. The whole point of a forum/site is to get people involved and encourage them to share their experiences and perspectives as well as delivering information to the user. Personally I find the text difficult to read, the site is also bit slow and generally difficult to take in. The net result is me visiting less. I am still checking back now and again to see what progress is being made but it would appear to be a slow process of improvements rather than great leaps forward.

Our dev team works in 'sprints' (ie blocks of work) which typically last two weeks. During that time they may be working on several sites simultaneously (What Hi-Fi?, Stuff, Autocar, FourFourTwo etc). Each brand gets allocated a certain amount of time (or points) within each sprint for things to be done.

Right now we are focusing on fixing the log-in issue, unresponsive tabs when viewing the Awards site on iPhones/iPads, further improving in-site search and desktop navigation. Further improvements will follow in subsequent sprints. Our internet ops team has already done some work to speed up the page loading times across the site, although the 'active topics' page does still take longer to load than most and that is being further investigated.

Hi Andy. I'm new to this site but have been on daioly since joining. As some have said it is slow to open when searching products, say by brand and more than once my little waiting circle at the top just goes round and round until I get error message. I thoght it was my end at first but I'm OK on other sites I use. Best of look in fixing this as it's very frustrating. Excellent site though and what good membership for their responsiveness

I've complained several times about that. It freezes any time you press something other than a letter / number key. Reset it by clicking done and then clicking back in the text box. It is an enormous PITA given that the text box doesn't scroll as you type.

I'm having same problem, although it was the same on the old site but I could scroll down the page and click the little smiley and that would fix it. Very frustrating!!
