I currently use the Denon AH-D310 on my Xperia Z using deezer. But I am looking to upgrade my headphones to use with my amp which is the Matantz PM6004 and to still be able to use with my phone. I have an eclettic taste in music but mainly listen to R&B & Hip Hop. I have a maximum budget of £250 and these are the options I have come across the Akg k550, Akg Q701 and the Philips Fidelio X1. What do you guys recomend out of these three or can you recommend any others.

Thanks

For R&B and HipHop you could do an awful lot worse than the AIAIAI TMA-1 series. Several different models and they are ideally suited to your taste. Been listening to the Young Gurus a lot of the past few days as I got some myself. Brilliant.

Ended up getting the AKG k550's as I listened to them through an audiolab dac listening to music I like and fell in love with them I compared them to the Grado sr80I and philps x1's.

My next purchase is to get a dac I can use with my headphones I liked the audiolab I was listeng to though I just can't afford the £500+ price tag now need to do a bit of research on what works best with my purchase for half the price of the audiolab.

Thanks for reporting back. When I read this I had a sudden thought - many times people have a headphone with a strong bass that's not really tight and they get a DAC/amp that pulls the bass and other things together in a very satisfactory way. But the K550 is very hi-fi and any DAC/amp that makes the sound more lean could be a problem. So make sure it fits, or you can return it if not.

Agree with Dale. Need to be careful. My earbuds are very natural and one headphone amp I tried made them unlistenable. Yet the same amp on a bassier pair of earbuds (that didn't sound anywhere near as nice beforehand) sounded great.

Regardless of the type you chose, the most important thing (after quality of course) to check is the softness of the earpad's lining.I use Noisehush Freedom BT700 Bluetooth Headphones ( I bought them from the online store Сreekle )

I've found the Xune X1 DAC is superb for £130. Online only from eBay (choose a UK based seller) but you could always return as long as the seller allows....just a thought. :)

The best Headphones I've came across for Bass and lively sound have been the Denon D600. They offer good clarity, separation and good mids and treble. The Bass is epic! Even better when amped.
