seanie:
im considering wall mounting a plasma above a fireplace, has anyone had any problems with the heat from the fireplace ?

Kind of depends what kind of fireplace it is. If it's a gas fire, most of the heat will be thrown out into the room, and less up the chimberly, whereas a roaring log fire might get a bit toasty for the telly.

My problem would more be that mounting the TV high enough to get it well clear of the heat might make for an awkward viewing height.

Hi, I"m afraid I have to agree with Andrew on this, Personally I wouldn"t even consider placing any TV above a Working Fireplace.Even an unused feature would place it at an awkward height. As far as I am aware the Ideal viewing height is that when seated your line of sight should be level with the centre of the screen, which most equipment racks allow for.

great thanks guys, looking at the fire place the plasma would be quite high, i think a stand should do it. I just didnt want the kids sticky hands all over it.

My dilema as well , I've currently got a template of the size of a Panny PZ80 on my chimney breast , its about 27 inches above eye level but doesnt look like itl cause a neck strain - sittling 5 metre from where screen will be. Trying to get a feel before commiting myself.

OK, assuming my O-level maths of several decades back doesn't fail me...

If the centre of the screen is 27in above your eye-level, then your head's going to be at around 8 degrees up on the bow plane all the time you're watching, which might be OK but wouldn't be my choice.

The natural resting position tilts the head slightly down, so looking up at the TV like that could get tiresome over a while.

If the bottom of the screen is 27in above eye-level, then you've got severe problems...

Andrew it is centre and a more accurate measurement its 24 inches, will try to look at it for a length of time but the template is only marginally more interesting than day-time TV

About a year ago, I stayed in a holiday house which had a TV which was mounted at that kind of height on a wall. ÿIt certainly did cause neck ache and spoiled the whole viewing experience.
