i dunno whether to purchase a 40 or 46 inch tv, i know this topic has been done before, but on WHF how to buy a tv, they say 1.6m buy 42 inch !!! seriously, who sits 1.6m from a tv, surely ya will go blind. my viewing distance is tv to eye sockets 2.5m, although its gonna be my puppy, the kids (5 & 1 years) will be watching standard def tv at times. are these distances quoted for HD and is the tv too big for little ones ?? im sure we were all told as kids not to sit close to the TV ?? im probably being stupid but wanna check and know what i can get away with

At that distance I'd go for a 46in.

No, no problem with the kids being too close to the screen, and while a 40 would just about do at that distance, a 46 will be more dramatic and unlikely to give you buyer's remorse of the 'I wish I'd bought a bigger one' kind...
