Have connected V+ box via HDMI1 on the TV and made sure various settings are at 1080 but picture quality is average at best. Pretty good when upscaling through Samsung DVD player but not sure I have settings right for V+ - anyone got any ideas? I have mid-proce HDMI cables, but should I spend a bit more on better ones. Any help greatly appreciated

Yeah TV seemed to alter picture settings to HDMI 'default' - dynamic mode, contrast is 100, sharpness 75, brightness 45 etc. Are these best settings or can I do more?

Well for a start do you have any THX Certified DVD's such as Star Wars??

They have a calibration system on there that is quite helpful. Once that is sorted I tend to find you need to drop the backlight level down to at least 5.

(What is the rest of the TV Model number ....R87??)

Its an LE32R88BD.

Have dropped backlight to 5 - getting better I must say. Do have Star Wars so will try calibration.

I have a M86 and an R88 and my basic settings for both are:

Mode - Movie

Contrast - 90

Brightness - 50

Sharpness - 30

Colour - 51

Tint - 50

Plus some other more detailed settings.

Anyway lets see how you get on with the calibration. Should definitely improve things. The picture is quite bad straight out the box and you worry about the purchase but once it is set up right it is excellent!!
