Hi there,

Not sure if this is the right forum to post in but here goes...

A friend of mine is buying for her husband's 40th birthday and has asked for some advice on an all in one amp/speaker/CD/ipod unit. I thought that the Denon D-M39DAB would be a good choice as does everything she wants.

However, she's asked if it can also be used as a way of improving their TV sound. They have a Sharp LC32AD5EBK and I've tried to see if it has a digital output out to connect to the digital optical in but haven't been able to confirm that.

If it doesn't have a optical out then is there a way of connecting up the TV sound via their digital set top box? I think it's a "normal" Virgin box, not a TiVO.

Any advice gratefully received as I've not owned this Denon unit before :)

Yes it does have Digital & Analog IN connections on the rear of the unit to the left side as you look at the back.

Edit: You can check it out here

Regards ...

The issue is that the TV doesn't have a digital output and, because of this, the OP wants advice on connecting the TV to the Virgin box.

Do the TV and Virgin box both have HDMI? Does the Virgin box have optical digital out?

But as i stated the Denon does also have Analog IN connections & the tv according to the manual has optical out, unless they have changed the specifications on the tv of course.

Sorry for the extended silence, been trying to find out some more details which is tough as this is a surprise present and the one who knows is getting surprised!

Apparently, they've sold the Virgin box and now have a Humax TN 5000 HD box for getting all of the French channels (as his wife is French). This does have 1 x HDMI connection but the TV is already connected up to it so no luck there.

However, from looking at this: http://www.humaxdigital.com/uk/products/new_leaflet/HDR-FOXT2_leaflet.pdf

The unit seems to have an RCA phono connection for analogue audio unless it's late and I'm seeing things (I get up at 6am).

Hopefully this will work? Anyway, I think that the CD/ipod was the main driver and getting better TV sound was just a bonus.

Thanks again for all of your help and advice which is always appreciated
